Another inexpensive option is buy the APR Ultralink for $129 then spend $199 for their exhaust valve mod and see how you like it. If you then want to tune you can buy theirs right through the Ultralink. I think that's the cheapest "real" way to to your exhaust valve mod and still retain your PSE button the way it is. If you don't like it they have a 30-day warranty. That's my plan with my T then the tune. Just used the UL for my wife's 718 S, super easy. Not dissing any other tunes or mods, just the route we chose to go with our P-cars.

There is no fixing the Carrera exhaust noise. They all sound objectively bad. Turbos kill the sound.

had a base 992 and then a 992 4s with sport cats and akraprovic exhaust

save your money and just do the valve controller

^ I’ll admit they sound bad at the low end. With cats and an exhaust you do sort of get that excessive turbo “the garbage truck is here” sound.

But on hard throttle, it sounded quite good. Loud and proper aggressive

I think it's more exhaust design than turbos. There are plenty of turbo cars that sound fine. I'm not saying it sounds as good as NA, just saying turbos have the potential to sound decent. I blame unequal length exhaust paths. Results in a pulsing that is not aligned with the cylinder fires. The pulsing creates an even lower frequency and combined with no exhaust merging between the banks, you just get this really dry unequal length double 3 banger sound. Once an outside observe is far enough away the pulses merge in the air as the distance decreases the exhaust separation but from the driver seat you don't get that benefit. Remember how the F80 --> G80 M3 became substantially better due to finally building the exhaust as equal length after numerous people performed equal length mods on the F80 aftermarket.

Agree on the exhaust design, likely due to limited space as a rear-engined car and having to cram turbos into the already tight space. Not all turbos sound bad, my tuned GT-R with mid-pipe and exhaust sounded fantastic even with the stock main cat in place.

Too general, have you listened to a C63s W205 (V8 Bi Turbo ) in stock configuration?

yes and they sound great. I had a f90 m5 that sounded amazing. The turbos and stock exhaust manifold (like the gentleman above mentioned) don’t do the Carrera any favors

I’d say from what I’ve heard, the Titanium exhausts definitely make the exhaust pitch higher and improve the tone versus stock. Something to consider if you don’t like the tone of the stock exhaust.

Our 100 cell sport cats cost $2,850 for a set. These are ø130mm and double walled so what you see on the outside are the heat shields.
Made of 316L stainless steel with excellent emission results and among the best flowing cats on the market.

Not the best clip as I wasn't foot flat, but this is my T with the JCR titanium valved rear, and IPE 200 cell cats. Agree the titanium gives a higher pitch towards the top end.
