992.2 market
#31
I stopped chasing the latest and greatest. I will drive my 992.1 GTS for quite some time.
But - I am currently shopping/flirting for/with an older 911 in the $75,000 range that I will send out to my Vacation home in the NW. Sort of a beater in a way. Probably a 2010-2015 that was decently taken care of. If any one has one they are considering selling PM me.

I, too, am a MT diehard. I don’t want an auto or PDK anything. Regardless of the performance potential and/or improvement, the MT is connection IMHO. Heck, even my commuter 2021 Toyota Corolla is a manual. I’m not opposed to hybrids as long as the tech is implemented well.

Ehhh, I don’t really think so. Many of us came from the BMW ///M camp, so going back to that is unlikely. Mercedes and Lexus don’t offer manual transmissions, so for those who like rowing their own cogs, there wouldn’t be any interest in MB or Lexus.

AMG are now very heavy but still with glorious sounding V8s in 63 trim.
LC500 is probably not long for this world with maybe one or two model years left. And also very heavy and not even close to being a sports car.
M3/M4 is probably the closest thing but with very polarizing design and lacks the prestige of the the Porsche brand.
I think the people who are already cross shopping a 911 against the above three cars already aren't the ones buying manual 911s nor do they care what the powertrain is so they aren't going to be gaining any more customers who may be potentially turned off by the .2. I predict people are either going to go looking for pre-owned 911s or just suck it up and buy the newest one like most end up doing with every generational change regardless of the internet outcry.

People overlooking the C8 - which for the money, is a great deal. I don't like the interior layout, that high center console is very confining, GM designed a front engine interior in a mid engine car. Maybe the C9 will fix that.

If someone is not 100% set on 992, M4 is a spectacular option. Much cheaper than base 992, and also can be bought at a discount off msrp, spectacular engine and spectacular performance to the price.

It is a stellar performance car at its price point. The M’s always punch above their weight.

The M4 is a fine car.
But I really don't think it's an option to the 911, much less a "spectacular" one.
AM Vantage, (upcoming new) AMG GT, C8 Z06, R8 (yes, I know it's been discontinued) and LC500 would be viable options.
None are perfect substitutes, each have +/- but all are better options than the M4.

I think the slight tweeks( love the new front with the headlights) to the design coupled with the updated power plant pumping 656 HP is going to be compelling.
They might of finally got this right but it has to be a keeper with the depreciation factor plus it is a big car and certainly has some mass.

A 2024 base 911 without options starts at $114,000, SL 43 starts at $109,000. The AMG GT is a 4 door coupe, so not really in the same class. BMW M3 isn't a sports car (really), rides like it has no suspension and anyway you can't buy a new one, you have to buy an M4 Coupe which starts at $84,000 - Car and Driver just did a comparison to the 718 Boxster and said both were equally engaging - not comparable to a 911 though. I'm not sure any Lexus should be in a sports car comparison to the 911.
Porsche knows what it has in the 911. My guess is people will keep buying as many as they can make as there is no real comparable sports car on the market that does what the 911 does.
