Default 992 PDK **** adapter?

I have a shift **** I've had on every car I've driven since I was 16. It's sentimental, and I love it. I've always been able to transfer it on fords and domestics. This is my 1st Porsche. my 2022 911 Carrera base's PDK is a whole new ball game. I need a way to get a 12 x 1.25 mm traditional round **** on there. I'm afraid I might be considering having to machine a bolt end onto the weird rectangle PDK-type base. Any thoughts other than you don't like the idea?

I just took a tennis ball, spray painted it black, cut a hole in it and slid it over the ****.

Not sure if I want it to be a joke or want to see a pic of a spray painted tennis ball stuck on the PDK shifter.

To your question / just not sure if it's worth the effort to mount an otherwise not fitting shift **** on the PDK and because nobody I have seen tried it you probably dont get a lot of good answers. There are the GT3 like conversion ***** on ebay but they want $900 or so.

I personally like the PDK ****. Much better than all other bulky automatic shift ***** including the 991 version. That's just me. I don't need a fist sized **** to put an automatic in drive and the small PDK does just fine and in my eyes looks good. And making it look like a manual seems silly to me too. Again, JMHO

did you read that this is a sentimental thing? Shift **** I've had in every car for 40 years. Was on my pop's car since the 40's. It isn't about what anyone else thinks looks appropriate. But I guess I hear you, no one knows.

Yes, I read that and understand but sometimes its just time...my relished pieces like that find a nice place in my home. But if you must, I am sure once you remove the PDK and are handy you can make an adapter of some sort.

Having been on this forum since it began, I can tell you there was a lot of talk about this early on and I leave it to you to search for the threads. IMHO since no one that I know of has yet developed a reasonable commercial replacement, I think you are going to have to deal with it. I would have a lot of concern about adding a relatively heavy object to the drive selector switch ( not gear shift lever) with no idea what might happen under heavy braking or acceleration, not to mention the additional inevitable wear and tear.

Same here... only an MT for ~40 years until I switched to PDK, but now don't miss the shifter in any way. Perhaps drive it for a bit and spend your attention on the paddles.. .you may forget all about it? Nowadays when I drive my kid's MT Mini's ('learned 'em well') I find myself instinctively pulling phantom paddles for downshifts, only to be disappointed I need to mess with the fiddly shifter, lol. You may be surprised how quickly you'll adapt...

Wait, you are literally going to 'transfer' a **** that you've been using for 40 years? That was not clear from the original post. Good luck with that.

yes, i thought it was clear. that's why i'm not too interested in people saying "maybe it's time" or "i wouldn't do it." I just wanted to know if anyone knew how. not only on my cars for 40 years, but on my late father's for 35 before that. I've figured it out. Bought a cheap replacement lever from sun coast and a stem and welding them together.

Please post a picture when finished. Hope it works out for you, nice that you want to do this for sentimental reasons. Sounds like your dad was a "cool dude"

I would buy a spare PDK shift **** lever ($90 from Suncoast) and modify it by cutting off the top 2/3 of the shifter and then finding a way to attach a metal cylinder to it that your sentimental shift **** can attach to. Or scan the PDK shifter, modify it in a 3D program to have a cylindrical lever that your shift **** can mount to, then 3D print the shifter.

Oops... actually see that you figured this out already. Cool.

Of course, the best and proper way to do this mod is to trade the car in for a manual, then you can easily put your sentimental shift **** onto the stock shift lever, or better yet, a Numeric short shifter.
