Default Dakar tires on regular 992

Has anyone considered using Dakar all-terrain tires and/or wheels on a regular 992? Apparently a set can be purchased from Suncoast. I wonder if they could be a suitable choice for all-season use or just as extra protection for pot-hole ridden roads. What would be the advantages and disadvantages in handling?

The 19/20" winter set for a 992 carrera is
Part number: 992 044 602 AFront axle: 8,5 J x 19 RO 52 with 235/40 R19 96V XL M+S tyres,
Rear axle: 11 J x 20 RO 66 with 295/35 R20 105V XL M+S tyres.

The 19/20" dakar is
Front axle: 8.0 J x 19 RO 38 with winter tyres 245/45 ZR 19,
Rear axle: 11.5 J x 20 RO 68 with all-terrain tyres 295/40 ZR 20.

On the front, you are probably good. Only +15mm difference in diameter on a 1/2" narrower base. On the rear, you have a wider base but only +7mm difference in diameter. So, the answer is "I don't know".

That said, if you have PCCB's, you are SOL. If you have PCCB's, the 19/20" will NOT fit over the brake calipers.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful

But, if it was me, I would get a 19/20" set of aftermarkets to match your Cab's asthetics and get something with a slightly softer compound and higher sidewall. Should improve your ride quality immensely.

The dakar wheel would look suspect on a cab.

The wheels/tires will fit without issue. Handling? It won't be as crisp or grippy due to taller sidewalls and harder compound with AT tread pattern. If you want them for winter/snow, proper winter tires will be better suited for the job.

I do like the look of them - black center "stars" with the lighter rim... remind me closer of older Fuchs than the Classics do. (also in white it looks like) If you elect to proceed, keep us updated as I love the Dakar wheel and since I have a T, don't really care for the huge wheels/small brakes look anway. Best of luck!

@Defiant I am 100% certain the dakar wheels will fit cars WITHOUT PCCB's. My only trepidation is that I don't think the AT is the right tire for a non dakar. No need to get a winter tire.

I would suggest Michelin Pilot Sports AS or similar. Would give a great ride (obviously you give up handling) if that is what the OP is looking for. Any ultra high performance all season tire will do.

Just to resurrect this because my friend has just purchased a Dakar and I was thinking of Scorpion All Terrain winter wheels on standard C2 rims, as I have a spare set.

Standard C2 suspension ride height is 141mm without Sport suspension. The Dakar is down as having 161mm ride height. 50mm more that a C2 with Sport suspension.

Looking at the C2 19/20 inch wheels with the 235/40 /19s front and 295/35/20s rear , the diameters for the wheels are 27 inches at the front 670mm and 28.6 inches at the rear 714mm.
The Dakar on 245 45 19s front and 295 40 20s rear has a diameter at the front of 29 inches and at the rear the wheel is 28.1 inches.
That means that if they fit, Dakar tyres would raise a standard C2 from 141mm to around Dakar ride height. Suits me fine.
I might have a go, might knock my speedo out a bit though.

I briefly looked into this. Love the look. Wheels are the key. I have a ‘23 4 GTS w/ 20” - 21” wheels. Was advised by my tire guy that Dakar 19-20 wheels would be far too close to standard brakes. Would fit, but not recommended. So will probably end up w/ some more aggressive 20-21 tires for summer.

Yesterday, I rode in a Dakar w/ the wheel/tire set up mentioned in post. Very stiff suspension and significant noise. IMO, 4 GTS with current Michelin Alpin winter set up far better for winter driving, Pilots for summer

Would love to hear from everyone about recommendations for aggressive 20-21 tires which give more of a Pirelli Scorpion look.

I am also checking out this idea. Using the site willtheyfit.com and your tyre sizes with the original ET numbers from the other post are 52 F and 66 R (I have not rechecked those elsewhere) and the Dakar alloys have these offsets 38 and 68.
The note off this website says the inside of the front alloy will be 20mm further away from the suspension and will poke out 7.7 mm. The rear alloy will have the inner rim 8.3mm closer to the suspension and also poke out 4.3mm. One thing I would like to find out is whether there is any problem with clearance of the brake calliper along with, is there 10mm + of space to the rear suspension as standard to allow this change. Or is it best to look at third party wheels with a different ET could avoid the rear inner getting closer. Front and back with the AT tyres you gain 15mm in ride height, so clearance with wheels straight and full lock needs checking too. Then with the speedo reading 60mph on the standard wheels on the Dakar alloys and tyres would read 57.5mph and at 30mph they read 1.3mph less. I would be interested to hear how you get on. l, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 20.4mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 7.7mm more than before.
