Default Nifty Magnetic Trickle Charger Connector

Just got around to setting up my 992s (992 TTS and 992 GT3) with a nifty magnetic trickle charger connection - I wanted something that was easy to connect / disconnect and that would not have a cord that draped down the side of the car when covered with indoor covers . . .

I decided on this location in the front wheel well . . .

About the best place I could find - connection has a cover so hopefully it will survive road grit.

Here are a few photos of the connectors I purchased off of ebay - the are quite common magnet connectors, and I used them with a small NOCO trickle charger . . .

Kit came pre-configured with a NOCO to mag dongle . .

From ebay - I think seller was in Japan!

Some instructions

Nice set-up. The Aston’s have a similar connection near the license plate.

Good eye . . .Yup - I started off in the MIGHTY F-4E Phantom in the USAF - now lucky to have several x-Canadian F-5s that I rebuilt and fly on various contracts - it's crazy flying these as a civilian . . . 'MERICA - ***** YA.

I was wondering how you’ve acquired such wonderful toys Bruce Wayne. So cool!

Maverick said this was a Mig 28!
Random question, when converting them to civilian planes, can you keep chaffs and flares?

This model is a Canadair CF-5D - I also have the single seat A model - neither one had integrated chaff / flares unfortunately - there are pylon-mounted dispensers though. And, it's difficult, but not impossible to source the expendables unless you fly under contract, which these ones do from time to time. The FAA has issues jettisoning anything in flight though. . .

The Ferrari 812 has a similar connector from the factory above the rear license plate. Very convenient.

How did you drill the whole in the liner and pull the cable through? Any howto pictures you have?

No photos of the in-process - used a simple hole saw, I think it was about 1" but can't recall -then routed the cables under the carpet inside up to to battery - really simple install - took 30 min or so. The mag connector is really the ticket - I previously had the dongle by the windshield wiper, which worked fine, but once you add a cover, it rubs the cords against the paint. I think the kit was around $100 and 30 min of work - well worth it.

I have an Aston Martin Vantage. Same thing in the same location. It's great. I wish more manufacturers did this.

An elegant solution. Is the CF-5D yours as well? I have about 1 hour in it when we hosted the Canadians at Miramar.

Is the magnetized connection robust / sufficient enough to support a jump start from a battery pack / micro start etc?
