Is it a good idea given my circumstances?

Buy it. You won't go poor doing so.
Worse case, sell it if you have to. They don't depreciate much.
Waiting for X situation to buy one is for people who don't have a sense of urgency or mortality.
You can always use your purchase to motivate yourself to do better.

What does your wife have to say? If she’s not on board it’s a bad idea.
You can figure out how to make a combined $400-$600k, then you can figure out how to save for any car you like.
How often do you plan on using the car? Not sure how old your kids are, but between work, driving the kids around for misc. activities, school, sports, etc., it can really limit the time to just cruise around in a 911.
Which leads to, does it matter (to you both) if you have a car that might sit around and seldom get used? Not saying it has to, you might decide to take the 911 all over regardless.
It’s also not just $130k. It’s $130k plus tax, plus insurance and annual maintenance. If that matters to you.
No one needs a 911…but a lot of people really want one. How bad do you want it and what are you willing to do to get one.
Make it happen or wait until you’re ready. It’s that simple. These cars aren’t important. But they sure can make you feel good!!!

No one needs a 911, but every 911 needs someone.

Have you funded your kids' educations yet? If not, do you have a plan for that?
As other have said, it is very hard to give you advice with only one half of the balance sheet and very little other information. And if you are looking for advice here than I would have to advise you that you are not fiscally adept enough to buy that car.

The car doesn't even "cost" $130K - given the resale values, these cars actually cost very little to own. You'll get most of that money back when you sell/trade it. When you pay for college tuition - that money is 100% gone. An expensive vacation, no resale value on that, its gone.

Why not ask if they have a nanny, housekeeper, personal chef etc.
Maybe then he can get a 911 but only used one…
Some of the advice here is too funny - it’s $130k car not a million dollar car. Also he is not playing roulette in a casino. You can always sell it and get majority of the amount back.
