Default The electric razor

Is there a way to replace the 992 electric razor with a better shifter?

Has anyone actually shaved with it?

If so, post pictures.

LMAO the standard shifter is lifted straight from the 918 and matches the five toggle switches below the screen. The optional aluminum shifter has odd proportions when you see it in person imo.

The 918 is a hybrid, and the 'shifter' (which isn't a shifter) is mounted on the dashboard where it belongs, given the function it serves.

Its not a “shifter” in the 992 any more than it is in a hybrid. It’s a transmission selector. And how does that relate to the fact that the design is consistent with the other hardware in the interior?

FWIW, I think the current "braun" selector is just fine, and consistent with the rest of the car. Never understood why true mechanical gear shifters (like in the 991) remained when they're just a fancy electric switch that sends an electronic signal to the gearbox to select R,D etc. They have nothing in common with the old auto box shifters that were mechanically linked to the slush box.

I never understood the frenzy around the shifter. I think it really does look decent and far better than any other large old school shifter levers...

I don’t think it is just the “selector”. It is the lack of a boot that exaggerates the piano black on the console. Some do not like the look of the console with the selector. For some, it is a distaste for the design of the console with selector as opposed to the selector itself. The other problem with the selector is you cannot use it to manual shift (unlike the 991) in tight turns when the paddles are backwards. In tight turns with my 991 I used my right hand to use the shifter to up shift and down shift because the paddles are not intuitive and harder to reach.

This "shaver" commentary is so tired. The joke/comparison is full-on stale.
It's in the same camp as the steering wheel blocking the gauges, which is practically 911 character.
The 992 gear selector has Porsche motorsports heritage going on multiple decades. Heck, it's from the 918 parts bin. If you take time to learn a little history about these cars, they're a lot more interesting.

Paddles are super intuitive and you don't need to take your hands off the steering wheel to use them. After you've driven several cars with steering wheel attached paddles, hitting the correct paddle in a tight turn is quite easy.

Full-on adequate still too IMO. So emasculating in such an iconic vehicle.

Until you downshift when you meant to upshift. Fortunately, the PDK has a limiter…..but still not good for the engine. Not an issue for me in a tight left turn. But with the wheel locked right, my right hand leaves the paddle and is difficult to upshift for me. Your experiences may differ and that is fine for you. But, we do not all wear a size 7 shoe.

When you opt to get the automatic version of an iconic sports car, you don't get to complain about emasculation. 🤣
