With our 718 I have read that spark plugs are very important to do on time not miles as they can "weld" themselves into the head due to heat (I'm assuming largely due to the turbo) so I will do the same with my T. The selling dealer did the 40k service on ours at 10k miles, including plugs.

Just did a Classic PCA Tech session and that's exactly what the master tech said about plugs. Time is important to ensure the plugs can still be removed.

If we are looking at the same PDF it says change at 30K or 4 years.

This is correct, my mistake above as well. The manual says every 30k miles/4 years.

So I did a three year oil change at the dealership this summer and made the mistake of requesting Mobil One. Labor was $360 and Parts $328.44. Mobil One was and additional $248. Should have asked up front if there was an additional charge for using the recommended oil

That is unbelievably expensive for no reason.

Mobil 1 should always be used by Porsche dealers as it's the recommended oil - I can't imagine what other oil they use that costs $248 less when Mobil 1 oil itself is less than that.

Any Penske dealership…and there are a lot of them…..use Pennzoil, because they sponsor the Penske racing teams.

Mine is in the shop as we speak getting the spark plugs. In service date of 09/2020. 14.5 k miles. $2,200. I was told plugs every 3 years or 30,000 mi. Probably could have waited a year, but my thought was better to pay now than pay later.

No matter how many times they parrot this bull****, that's what it is. Many cars, turbo or otherwise have no such time restriction and some go 100k miles on platinum or iridium plugs. With exceedingly rare exception, they come out no problem whatsoever.

Perhaps - but many Ford F150 owners a decade ago would argue with you on this statement. Ford sold a LOT of vehicles with the 4.6 and 5.4 engines.

And those engines also ejected spark plugs at will. Isolated issue.

That said, I had a dohc and sohc 4.6...no problem removing the plugs. But the sohc ejected 3 plugs for fun.

If the manual says every 30k miles/4 years they can't hold you accountable for any trouble removing plugs. Unless you are doing the work on your own it doesn't make any sense to go earlier than book IMO.

Absolutely, his point was if you're 4 years down the road with 15K, changes the plugs while you can. Regardless of accountability the interface between differing metals (Plug & Block) could cause issues after 4 years and it's not worth the overwhelmingly larger expense to remove the plugs the hard way (his quote was all money save delaying maintenance were gone and then some). He told a few stories about the ramifications after many attendees asked about delaying mileage/time services until the mileage came up.
