what else to do if the engine is coming out
Have had a CEL which the dealer said requires removing the engine to address. The dealer and an indy each said this particular code was the most minor emissions issue with no driver or engine impact, which indeed seems to have been the case.
Now at 44k miles, with the end of warranty approaching, I'm inclined to get this done while swapping from to winters from summers in a month or two.
First, does taking the engine out seem extreme? What are some gotchas to watch for? You just hope everything gets back together as solid and true as it was before.
Second,if it must be, what else should be done with the engine out? I'd take advantage and do any reasonable preventative maintenance, even if it isn't quite needed yet, to encourage/ensure the next 50-60k trouble-free miles. This is one of my key cars for the long haul.
The dealership will tell me service items they'd recommend. Your input will help me compare their recommendations to this forum's collective wisdom, and come up with a terrific to-do list.
Thanks in advance.

If you don't do it, the CEL will be with you forever or until you "try" to sell it. Get it done under warranty!

So what code exactly is minor, has something to do with emission and requires an entire engine removal...to fix exactly what?

Beyond spark plugs and coil packs, I would consider new water pump while engine is out……..so much easier to swap it with engine out and at 44k miles might be an issue in next few years. Pump not that expensive and labor charge low with engine out. Just a thought…….
