Tire and rim protection

Tire and rim protection
I know this topic has been brought up but was wondering again what you all think about a 5 year tire and rims protection offered by dealer. I’ve scraped all cars I’ve owned and leased and have never bought this option from dealer before. Offered 5 year tire and rim protection for around 4k. Thoughts?

Regardless, your price is high and you can probably negotiate it down. I paid $1758.00 for 3 years (Fidelity) in 2020. I bought it because there is frequent construction going on in my city and I have had numerous tires replaced due to nails over the years. Naturally, after buying this policy I didn't have any flats during the 3 years. In hindsight I also shouldn't have purchased it because with Covid and WFH I am driving even less miles.

That price is crazy high. And it will be hard to go through that many tires and wheel repair during that time.

I paid what you paid in July 2021. As of a few weeks from now I will be money ahead. Your experience may vary.

What I have noticed on my wife’s wheel and tire warranty (and she is a frequent user of said warranty) is the insurance company that backs these warranties has really increased their scrutiny of the claims. It requires a lot of pictures and takes a few days to process the claims.

With my purchase yday, the dealership was asking for ~$5800 for the +3 service and ~$12k for the +3 service and four year wheel/tire/ding protection package. While it covers a decent amount, the price is absurd unless you have extremely bad luck. In the 3.5 years of ownership with my 992 C2, I had one nail in a tire super early on that *may* have qualified for replacement, nothing more. I was considering the wheel/tire package with my GTS given the CL wheels, but at that price I may as well roll the dice. Aftermarket with Fidelity seems to be a better path for the $. YMMV.

I mistakenly expected that the insurer would replace a bent wheel that cannot be balanced. I was wrong. If your tire holds air, regardless of wheel condition, no replacement. I'm tempted to put this in the "scam" column. This is a very lucrative insurance product for the insurer. I cannot imagine very many paying insureds getting their money's worth. Never again!

I've almost always picked up a nail in a tire on all my cars including my 992 and I just go to the local Discount Tire store and they always fix it for free. I virtually never curb my rims. Even if I did, the cost of fixing curbed rims is super cheap compared to the cost of the insurance being quoted here.

I don't know what plan you have, but the Fidelity plan on here that many on here recommend did pay for a replacement rim on my Audi S4 that was bent and could not be balanced.
