Ethanol oxygenates the gas blend, hence the bigger bang. But you need a specific tune to use large quantities

One note of correction, whereas Sam's Club, Kwik Shop and some others use cheaper fuel sources , Costco and QT ( Quiktrip ) use Top Tier Fuels with the proper detergents. A good place to check is at toptiergas.com and you may find some surprises since there are a few top name brands that are not listed -- BP is a prime example. Part of the reason I go to Costco to fill up as they are always the same price as Sam's but they have the Top Tier fuel that Manufacturers recommend for their vehicles. I check the list every once in an awhile as there was a period where some top brands stopped adding the detergents to their formula. Interesting, because at present VP is another fuel not listed , like BP, and I do believe that is a surprise to most of us.
The fuel from Costco is terrible for performance cars if you are trying to make power. It's very apparent looking at datalogs from cars filled with Costco 93 or 91 that there is significantly more knock occurring than say gas from a station like Exxon or Shell.
Don't get me wrong, I love going to Costco, and I fill my daily driver with their gas and it does save me money. But if I'm going for power I would absolutely not get gas from there.

The eco-ethanol blend in pump gas will burn at lower temperatures and so produce less emissions. The higher octane gas (ethanol or non-ethanol) will produce more power. That’s it

Data source is just my personal experience. Nothing to avoid - just know the brand name on station may not be the owner of the refinery where the gas was made.

I love that he not only played Jim Morrison, but that he also played Nick Rivers, a parody on a singer. Interestingly when the Doors toured there were signs in the audience, "We love you Jeem". And in this movie is a take off on that (despite the Doors movie not coming out until 7 years later), "We love you Neek"

Gasoline blended w ethanol has a much shorter storage life if you are not daily driving. I’ll take that over possibly a couple more hp, but curious as to the reasons for this statement.

That just means your Exxon or Shell has subpar gas.
Top Tier gas is Top Tier gas and, personally, I would trust Costco to be more homogenously accountable in what they are advertising as "Top Tier" than a branded franchisee, like your (not specifically "your" Exxon, but generic "your") local corner Exxon or Shell station.

Interesting tidbit about ethanol, while it has less energy content per unit volume, which makes it less fuel efficient from an mpg standpoint, it also has a much lower stoichiometric ratio (slightly offset by a higher density) than gasoline, which means ethanol can yield 5~6% more power for the same mass flow of air inducted by the engine (i.e. at WOT).

Today I learned that our "High Octane" at Eneos gas stations in Japan is rated 99.5 - not too bad for standard pump gas. But 173 yen ($1.25)/liter, so ~$4.73/gal, with discounts (paying with the Eneos app and using a -2 yen/liter coupon)...

Burning Brakes
For tuned cars you are ‘off the ranch’ and will need to review with your tuner since there are many options.
In Europe and other continents octane is measured using different calculations but the same rules apply: using more than the highest recommend octane is of zero performance benefit.
