Actually I look on the floor and there's nothing nor any decrease of coolant volume. Strange.

It takes very little coolant to generate quite an odor. This smell can be persistent for some time. What you want to be looking for, if there isn’t an actual drip or puddle, is a small stain adjacent to a sealing surface or a plumbing connection (Ex: hose to pipe). Given the convoluted plumbing of our cars, this can prove to be something of a challenge. But that may be what you’re up against.

Give me a day or two. I’ve got this somewhere. If I recall correctly, VW/Porsche/Audio/Seat didn’t each invent their own filler/pressure caps. Thus the adapter is common across a number of product lines.

Thanks, standing by. No rush as I've got some stuff to do and won't be driving the 992 for a couple of days

@Bluehighways it's been a day or two

@Mrcleanr6 looks like it's a vent of some sort, but if it vents eventually you'll see some "loss" of coolant whilst if it's a closed system you shouldn't smell anything... weird indeed.

Sorry . . . it has been more than a day or two.
The MATCO Adapter I'm using is P/N: MPT10041P See picture below:
FWIW Stant sells a replacement Cap P/N 10249. It comes in the "lovely" blue color seen below.
I came about this in a rather roundabout way. First I found the Stant replacement Cap and made sure it fit properly. Then looked up what other vehicles this pressure cap was cataloged as fitting. From that list, I was able to find the thread size and then I was able to go back to MATCO for the adapter. What fun!

Thanks. I must be missing something, I don't understand what either of those bring to the table that would address the odor. What is the silver extension for on the Matco for?

The Green and the Silver portions are a single piece.
The value of this adapter (assuming you have a radiator pressure tester kit. and if you don't you need to get one anyway) is that one can manually pressurize the cooling system to:: 1.) See if there are any leaks (pressure decreasing over time), 2.) To physically locate any leaks while the engine is cold and is easy to look around and poke at, and 3.) One can also pressurize the cooling system to a pressure somewhat greater than it will see in normal operation. This can turn a small seepage into a much easier to find leak of some significance. The get a bigger hammer logic.

Thanks, so do you leave it on permanently or only for testing purposes? Any coolant pressure data for the 992? Amazon for the pressure tester?

1.) Only for testing purposes.
2.) 22 PSI
3.) Almost any "Cooling System Pressure Tester Kit" that shows up on an Amazon search will work with this MATCO adapter. My preference would be to purchase a used Stant Kit P/N ST255A from eBay. (Also search for "ST-255A" and "ST-255-A") They can be found for ~$30 to $40. They were/are incredibly rugged. I've had mine for over 50 years. The company that bought out Stant a few years ago sells a kit labeled as Stant as P/N 12270, but the quality is not anything like what it used to be. You will need to buy a new gauge if you acquire one of the original ST255A kits that reads up to 30 PSI. Search Amazon for "Meanlin XJ-067" and select the 0-30 psi gauge with 1/8" NPT threads. it'll be ~$10.

before i start driving myself nuts, i will give it a few days and some miles of driving. it very well could be someone just topped the thing off with no funnel and spilled coolant down in the engine and its burning off. i am hoping its something like that and its not a leak somewhere that no one can find.
