How much in options

How many times have you ordered something and then it arrives and you think darn I should have gotten X? I have certainly done it with homes I've had built and cars. I've learned my lesson, now if I'm teetering I just go for it. In the end the dollars won't matter but your enjoyment may be diminished.

I'm not saying don't get what you want.
I just disagree with the viewpoint expressed here and elsewhere that more options, and hence more features, are necessarily better, that by choosing not to option certain items that this represents a personal compromise.
Remember that the options are the highest margin items on the car and it's in the manufacturer's interest to sell you as many as it can.
My viewpoint on the Targa is backed by my own experience with a G-model Targa, and others' experience. There's an insightful review by Schmee150 on YouTube. Check it out.

Our C2S was $8k less.
Who here is going to admit that they spent $10 k in options they wish they DIDN'T order?
I am positive I do not miss and do not need PCCB, FAL or rear axle steer. That right there is about $16k.

I think you may be disagreeing with something that hasn't actually been stated. People like myself are just saying that if you want it, get it. Don't hand wring about something over a couple thousand dollars if it's something you want. But I don't think I see anyone saying to add things just for sake of adding things, especially not if you don't want it. Like I don't want or care for ACC and would never add it even though I know it's a must have for some. I'm not going to get it for someone else. But I do want RAS so I'm going to get it and am not going to let its $2000 price hold me back from selecting it. I know there are many who don't want it and that's fine. The ones we are talking about who are making compromises are the the ones who see options they want but then trim them out because of some arbitrary price ceiling when in the grand scheme of things, that $1000 extra or whatever spend shouldn't make a difference.

Spent about $32k in options on my GTS. Split out as:
Paint/Interior Trim - ~$15k ((Mostly GTS Package & Racetex everywhere)
Performance / Mechanical - $6k (RWS, Sunroof, ACC)
Premium Package - $4k
Seats - $3k
I see both sides of the story. For me this was my first new Porsche and I was able to spec how I wanted. My last 991S had the base interior and although it was more than serviceable, I felt it took away from the feel of the car. On a $150k+ car I wanted an interior that fit the car and the full racetex did it for me. It is really to option these cars up fast!

We didn't compromise, but I left off a lot of options that add no value to me.
Having owned various cars, including Porsche, since the 1970's I know that anything that can break very well might, especially as a car gets older. I sold my last two cars after 15 and 20 years, so we might have this one just as long.
PCCB's? Really? $10,000 just so you get less brake dust, or theoretical performance on the track? No thanks.
Front axle lift? With normal ride height front scrapes are rare and mostly very minor. I'm already seeing stories about failures. And I know this can be really expensive to fix when out of warranty.
Sunroof? No thanks. Never used it when I had it. Needs maintenance to the drains annually. Reduces headroom and allows more noise.
Rear axle steering? Another expensive and complicated option. Not needed in normal driving.
Four wheel drive? Reduces steering feel, adds weight, maintenance cost. Not necessary. Rear drive is more fun especially with standard limited slip differential.
Our total was a little over $17k on a C2S. Mainly just three things: Premium package, club leather interior, and Paldao wood trim. We did splurge for one custom item: rear strakes painted body color (Guards Red).
I think with the options we left off we saved not only a LOT of money, but also probably several hundred pounds of weight as well.
