I noticed after a day out in the sun the Porsche Design Clock glows in the dark when the car is off - hadn't noticed before. Anyone else notice this? Would have been neat to have it like this when the car is on too
Above is a picture of my clock when it is dark-real tough to read. I brought it to the dealer during daylight and the service guy put an empty cardboard paper roll by the clock and looked through and he could see the hands perfectly via the luminesence, and when I looked I saw the glow that your picture shows and was totally perplexed. The Service Advisor said it was a design flaw of the clock regarding backlight and there was nothing he could do about it. So Porsche had the nerve to charge $1120 without providing a properly designed light backdrop???
Anybody have a clock that you can read clearly at night? If so, could you please post a shot of it at night.
Thanks. The clock is the only sore spot I have regarding my 2023 992.
The Posche Design clock is designed to mimic a mechanical wristwatch, which uses Luminova to light hands/indices at night
On a wristwatch, this makes perfect sense, since even a few minutes of direct sunlight - or an hour or two of computer monitor spillover - is enough to charge the Luminova for hours
But in a car, given the orientation of the sport chrono, the watch face is almost never going to get direct sunlight, especially if you're moving.
One workaround is to hit the face with a high-lux LED flashlight for a few minutes before it turns nighttime.
I really like the look compared to the standard sports chrono clock (I'm still not sure about its value added), but when I have an early start at work (aircraft simulator instructor) it's always too dim to read. Actually, its behavior is identical to my watch ... too dim to read when its zero-dark-thirty.
