I'm not seeing that. Perhaps you could post another picture.
The retainers fit flush without inserting any tabs into square holes. I think those might be for another vehicle, Cayman/Boxster perhaps.

the closing strap on it is velcro.

Excellent write-up.

Too bad the fire extinguisher is such a visually ugly option. Very glad the US vehicles are not required to include that device.
