I do the same. I don’t understand the need to have the phone visible.

What's complicated to understand?

90%+ people use phone while driving even if it's a check at a traffic light

Just to share another solution, the ESR charger have for Teslas actually work well with the dash ledge if you're not against sticking something on there.

I've created a couple 3D designs for this btw. One for the Apple magsafe charger (Which is white) and another which I like better, for this
ESR charger ESR charger
which is glossy black and therefore matches the gloss black plastic cover on the console. Just painting a couple of them to see how they look in a gloss black and a gloss red (since I have the guards red chrono and red seatbelts).

The ESR one is a bit wider though.

If you want one, PM me and I can mail one over if I have a spare.

Probably could have done a better job painting it. Haven’t yet stuck in on properly with double sided tape. But I like it. I might just stick to the non painted one the more I look at it. Hmm..

That's what I want to explore too - which torx screw did you loosen to get this installed in such an abbreviated fashion?

I may have missed it somewhere, and admittedly I'm not much of a DIY'er, but any tips on getting the CF trim piece out?

I've watched the Magsafe video and tried repeatedly, but the next step feels like I'm going to break the whole thing.

Any advice appreciated.

Lift up from the back of the trim but inside edge of trim with your fingers. Use a plastic trim tool if needed. Once lifted up, pull back.

Having you been using it in the past few months and if so, any update on the project?

Yeah, has been working flawlessly, went back to the unpainted one. Excuse the finger prints from this older photo.

..you do have to be okay drilling a hole into your glossy black trim piece of course. If you ever wanted to revert back, you'd have to buy a new trim piece (believe they go for USD$80 or thereabouts).
