Default Center Console Frame Replacement

My Light Silver Center Console just arrived, it will be the final piece in my conversion to the matte CF interior trim. I watched a video of someone removing the center console to polish scratches, it does not look very hard to do. Just checking to see if anyone has done this and if so any advice you might have on this install.

I'd suggest going through the threads on the Numeric Short Shifter installation. You have to remove all of that same trim to do that modification and there are a few people that put up detailed DIY write-ups on it (and many people talking through their individual difficulties with the process).

Overall your assessment is correct... it is not terribly difficult, but the first time will take a little bit of research and commitment.

Yes. Check out my Numeric install post for pictures. I found this youtube guide to be extremely helpful as well:

By “center console” if you just mean the black shiny trim then it’s easy to remove. I followed this video when I PPFed mine…

Yes, this is the video I watched. Seems pretty thorough, although clips never release that easily when I am working on trim.

I watched the video - thank you for posting. Does anyone know where I can get my pieces painted to match my exterior color (Aventurine)?

Suncoast sells them already painted. I saw a guy on eBay that sells the trim painted, I believe they do the painting themselves so maybe they could do it for you. I am selling my Dark Silver trim on here if you are looking for a set to have painted. The only issue I see for you is that the door trim pieces are plastic welded in, you would need to buy a new set of the door trim or figure out a way to remount it. You could probably glue it in.

Thanks I have the interior trim painted in exterior color no cost option on my car. I’m looking to have more of it painted in the exterior color, the black pieces in particular that house the seat heating and ventilation switches and the rectangular black pieces on both sides of the shifter.

I am not sure how you paint those glossy black parts? Probably a challenge.

Completed!

I completed the center console install today, it took me 2.5 hours, I have a splint on a finger on one had and 10 stitches in the other hand so my mobility was impacted, it will be easier to pull out all of this trim with good hands. This plug is on the bottom of the part where the AC controls are, do not put out too hard before you disconnect this plug. The plug you see below it with the red part, do not mess with it, there is a smaller plug on the bottom of the trim part where you can disconnect it and remove it from the car.

In the video the guy removes the trim from this part, do not remove it, it is not necessary to remove it. If you do remove it like in the video the switch that controls the sunroof has two small springs behind it, they will pop out and they are hard to find. The only way to get the trim back on this part is to remove the tops of the switches for the two forward sunroof controls, insert the trim and then re-attach the buttons.

Don't forget to swap this piece of gloss black trim off of the front of the old center console before you install the new center console, having to do the install twice because you forgot it is frustrating and embarrassing.

The video is very good for removing the parts of the center console except for the piece mentioned above. Tools needed were a T20 Torx screwdriver (all screws involved a T20), a few trim removal tools and a good work light. I applied some Remington Dry Lube to the plastic trim tabs with a q-tip before reinstallation. This made several of my mistakes less painful when I had to remove some trim pieces for the do-over, they came out a lot easier. None of this trim comes out as easily as it looks in the video.

Any tips on removing (and later replacing) the wires underneath the frame? There isn't much slack so it's difficult to even see what's going on underneath. Thanks in advance!

They aren’t difficult to disconnect.

The video is self-explanatory, yet, you come in here asking for tips. Dig into the project and your question about the wiring will be answered. There’s plenty of slack to access what you need to access.
