Default Front lip on 992 GTS

Hi Guys

picked up my 992 GTS yesterday from OPC, awesome experience, drove down to London to take car for PPF I had to go into an underground car park and as I entered I heard a scraping noise, my heart sank, I was like oh boy day 1 and I’ve already scraped my brand new car. I felt even worse since I have FAL and just didn’t think to turn it on, obv have got to get used to that and make a conscious effort and appreciate how low the car actually sits with the extra 10mm low height.

anyway I got out to inspect the car fearing the worst as you do, turns out it scraped the plastic (or maybe its rubber) underneath the front lip so not the car bumper or the plastic lip that sticks out visually but a strip of plastic/rubber that sits underneath that you can’t see unless you look under.

Does anyone know a) if this is an issue in any way that needs correcting? b) is this a replaceable part

I am thinking whether I do something about it or just put it down to one of those things that’s going to happen when living in big cities like London, as I say I have FAL which I will use to protect the actual bumper and trip and avoid any “real” damage” in future (I hope)

Would be interested in your thoughts and whether it’s something others have experienced and gone through

I feel like a real idiot tbh, I specc’d FAL purposely to avoid something like this from happening and yet it did!!!

thanks

Don't be too hard on yourself. Porsche sells a replacement at an unbelievably Porsche like price (I think like $150-$200 here in the colonies). Think of it as a sacrificial part in a way. There is a reason these cars ship with it un-installed

Wouldn't sweat it, leave as is so you won't be upset next time
Cheapish part by Porsche standards to replace ($400...) and easy to DYI replacement.
I scraped mine leaving the dealer lot, was also fearing damage, checked when I got home, black plastic, no real visual impact, it is designed for the purpose of protecting pricier body parts.
Also too thin to use with things like Sliplo to protect area.
Now from recollection, London has certainly more possible obstacles than here but since you have FAL, you will get used to it quickly

Thanks gents, you’ve made me a feel better. You know how it is when you hit/scrape your cherished car for the very first time not like any time is good but…

It’s like a $560USD part that you can replace yourself. Don’t sweat it.

Boy - inflationary pressures must be resurging, the cost of a front lip spoiler has jumped from like $150 to $400 to $560 in the span of just a few posts.

Not really, it's my laziness in not looking it up first on Suncoast. I just remembered it was a cheaper part.

I wonder what the specific part costs in the UK, I was hoping something in region of £200 ish. I could stomach that down the line if needed but not much more.

anyone know if it’s part of the spoiler lip above or a separate part? Haven’t actually got the car with me to take a look, mind you even then don’t think I could tell without a ramp or jacking it up

This isn't the part OP is talking about (though it might include that part). That part also arrives primed and must be painted, so expect to spend a few more bucks to paint it.

The part OP is talking about is the thin strip of plasticky-rubber below the lip that you can only see from up underneath the car. I believe it has an aerodynamic purpose — pushing air lower and outwards to reduce drag induced by the rest of the undercarriage — but getting scraped up is its secondary purpose and you don't need to worry about it.

I haven't been able to find that lip on Suncoast, but I'm pretty sure they have it because (again, I'm pretty sure) a replacement for it shipped with my aerokit. Perhaps worth an email if anyone really wants to replace it.

agreed, part number for #13 in the below diagram is 992807951AOK1
Costs $290 here. List price is $405 but that's what Google is for. Although shipping will likely suck given size so best to find a local dealer. No need to paint just black plastic, sacrificial part so just budget one/year, probably the cheapest part of the Porsche experience
Not sure about cost in the UK but likely similar
