Default Over MSRP Remorse

I purchased a 2022 CPO 992 S with 2k miles for 6k over sticker. I paid cash.

I've had the car for four days. I absolutely love it, but since I've was taught by my dad to never pay over sticker for cars (especially used cars)

I'm having major remorse. For context, I'm able to afford the car, but psychologically I feel like I made a foolish mistake. I feel I should have been more patient. Waited for the market to cool off. Does anyone have experience going through something like this?

Enjoy the car. Drive it.

You paid cash. If you had the cash, $6k really isn’t a big deal to someone who can drop six figures of cash on one of these cars. There are people who paid $15…25… 30 over sticker.

You got the car that you wanted. If you waited, there might have been some kind of economic event that made you less comfortable with buying the car in the first place.

Just enjoy the car. You didn't get such a bad deal.

MSRP would have been up about that much anyway when you would have gotten your car.

There's time and money. It would seem you must have the ability to create more money, but no one can be assured of more time.
And the market for these cars hasn't exactly cooled off yet, especially a low mileage S. Reasonable people may disagree, but there's still a limited supply so I think some folks here stating the market has "cooled" may be indulging in some wishful thinking if they are looking but don't yet have a car.

I got my current car at MSRP but pre-traded my 991.2 so was without a 911 for almost 8 months, albeit mostly over winter here. Every decision has some cost that may not be easily quantified.

Such is life my friend. Unfortunately, feelings get in the way of risk management and the outcome doesn’t care about your feelings.

Bigger picture: There are many people who have lost 10-10000X that much in the last year or so in the stock market. There are also others who retired and their 401K went to shtt.

If you’re not retired and have a retirement fund, do you have remorse investing given the current market? Most just move on with life and forget the money is even there.

Do the same with your car, money is long gone now, move on and enjoy your car (and life).

EDIT: I just realized you had it for only 4 days. The car market started to cool off way before then and is somewhat starting to plateau again, albeit no where near where it used to be! I didn’t know 2022’s were still going for over MSRP! I picked up a 2020 992 S (CPO) recently with 17K miles for about $124K (MSRP: $148K). After the sale of the car I had an honest conversation with my SA and he confirmed that lately it has plateaued a bit and supply is still pretty damn low (except for basic cayennes and macan’s).

- as others have said, if you paid cash for that car it doesn’t sound like $6K is going to “move the needle” in your life. Enjoy your car.
- how much did 2023 MSRP’s go up? 2024’s aren’t going to be any lower you can be assured of that. Enjoy that you have a car now.
- speaking of dads, mine died of a massive heart attack at 60 years old. No warning - active man with no conditions to contribute (not overweight, non-smoker, not a heavy drinker etc). You are not guaranteed another minute in this world. Enjoy your car.

Now, that doesn’t mean you don’t take care of your present obligations and plan for the future with a certain degree of a “margin of safety” but I’m guessing you know that.

Enjoy your car!

If you bought a 2023, it would have been at least $6K more than what the 2022 MSRP was, so you're pretty much even AND you got a longer warranty as well...so that's a solid win.

Don't let the "art of the deal" get in the way of enjoying the car. So you paid a couple of thousand more than you thought you should have paid, in the big picture it is not very relevant. What is relevant is your enjoyment of the car. Time is more precious than money.

You have to live for today. Life is not always calm and stable. Money is not the root of your existence, it's only a tool to support life and lifestyles.

HEALTH is what matters, and that can be snatched away from you in an instant. You can always make more money. Enjoy every day.

Like the many previous posts.... $6k is virtually a rounding error. You have the CPO coverage. You got the car with no wait. 2023 would've been $6k more expensive over 2022 MSRP. I think you did well given the satisfaction you are getting from the car. Enjoy!
