Default Extended Warranty on New 992

What are new Porsche buyers - specifically 992 buyers - thoughts about extended warranties including wheel and tire coverage and future service packages. Do you find they are easily transferable, can be used at any/all Porsche locations and the return on the investment including “piece of mind” is worth the cost.

The only one that I am all for and usually buy/will be buying on my 992T is the wheel and tire insurance... I live in New England, and the roads are bad enough that I don't want to pay for a rim if I end up hitting a pot hole. I think you literally pay for 3 years worth of insurance if you crack 1 of the rims on a 992. Beyond that, I dont usually buy any additional stuff. you can always extend to 6 years later on if you feel like you might keep the car longer, but the 4 year warranty is good enough for me.
Wheel and tire can be used anywhere! Most of these are not transferrable... CPO cars its easier, but others might know more about this piece

statistically speaking those are money makers for the dealer. the service contract locks in your service business and gets you in their shop to spend some extra money. i passed. get road hazard on your next set of tires. windshield coverage on your insurance and find a good indy for service or do the routine items yourself.

I got the wheel and tire. I've already used it for one flat tire and one curb rash repair.

I did opt for the extended warranty through Porsche, for an extra 2 years. I can reevaluate at some point to see if I want to buy more.

Does anyone read the actual product description on the Porsche website anymore? Presuming that is the product you are purchasing and not a 3rd party offering (of which one could do the same)?

I highly recommend searching the forums for this as well. TONS of discussion about them! Easy reading too!

I always do wheel and tire and always seem to use it. I found if you look and go to stiengold volvo...posts somewhere on here...you can get 5 year w&T for the cost of three at the dealer. They both, at least at mine, use fidelity. Fidelity has been good and easy to use.

There's no good value to be found with any of those things that they sell you in the "box".
  • You can repair a lot of wheels for that wheel and tire premium spend. A good wheel repair outfit is a wonderful thing.
  • I put more than 35k miles on my 922 C4S in 2.5 years, paid for the services myself and came out well ahead of the game.
  • You can do Porsche's extended warranty anytime while the 4y/50k mile warranty is still effect. I won't speak specific ill of the various third party extended warranty plans that sponsor RennList. To be clear, they are effectively a type of insurance and I prefer to self-insure when it comes to this stuff. The third party extended warranty sounds great until you're fighting them on a claim.
  • Auto glass coverage is included in your insurance by law in many states. You're basically paying for it twice. Check your coverage.
When some rando rear-ends your 8mo old car at speed and totals it, you're not going to see jack from the insurance company in that settlement check for any of this stuff -- you may or may not be successful in getting a partial refund from the various providers. Most new 911 owners don't hold onto their cars long enough or drive them enough for any of these things to really be a factor.

$4.4k to extend the warranty out to 10 years and unlimited miles with $100 deductible that can be canceled and the prorated amount refunded is a no brainer if you're gonna keep the car for a while. It's not as good as the new car four year warranty but it's exclusionary. Everything besides trim and wear and tear items are basically covered. I mean how much would it cost out of pocket if your FAL went out, rear wheel steering, etc?

EDIT: FYI: I bought the Fidelity warranty from Steingold for my DD and it's already paid for itself when my air suspension crapped out last winter and I still have until 2027.

In the end its a numbers game. In ten years do you think you'll have > $4.4k worth of maintenance issues?

2022 992 Targa 625 miles had two non-patchable rear driver and passenger tires at SAME TIME.. $1200. Fortunately I had W & T.

How much does the W&T package run? I know it varies a bit State to State but just looking for a ballpark.

Only thing I would consider is the wheel and tire pkg. One flat and a bent rim and you'll have recovered your costs.

Whether it's worthwhile or not really depends on the interplay of couple of factors: the condition of the roads where you live/drive and how often you drive on those said roads.
