Need to charge non-daily driver?
I apologize if this has been discussed before, but a quick search did not reveal any recent discussions.
I just took delivery of my 992. There was a card in the glove box that said I should buy a charger and use it if I am not using the car as a daily driver. If I intend to use the car once a week, do I need to do this? Greatly appreciate any advice.

It is Certainly not required if it just sits for the week or even a couple weeks.

No need if it is going to be used every few weeks
Mine is being stored for winter so I am putting it in a tender.

You’re fine at once every 7-10 days.
But regardless, I would go ahead and run the charging leads to the positive post on the battery, and the grounding post on the firewall. It’s going to save you on frustration later.

Do I need to connect it directly to the battery or can I connect it to the 12v socket in the car? From everything I read, the Porsche charger can connect directly to the socket.

The battery will last longer if you use a maintainer.
I leave the maintainer in the frunk, and leave the frunk hood ajar when charging. (Inside the garage). I have a pull down power cable which makes it very handy.

Thank you. I bought the maintainer this morning. Can't I connect it to the 12 volt socket in my car rather than having to directly connect it to the battery?

Three Wheelin'
People have reported issues with the maintainer staying on/connected when using the 12 socket. There is supposedly some magic sequence of steps to ensure it keeps a good connection, but using the pigtail leads is just much easier.

I would not trust the 12v socket method, as it requires a specific ignition sequence, lock, unlock, window up down up down A B A B code before the socket is kept “live”. Otherwise, it shuts off, and then you have to pull up your door handle, hope there’s enough juice left so the window drops down so you don’t destroy it as you open the door, find the red tab in the fuse panel down in the foot well, hook up jumper leads to it so you have enough power to pop your frunk so you can access your battery.

I always plug it in when not using. The 992S i had the AGM was a joke would go dead in a few days. Dealer replaced the new one wasn't any better.
The problem is they have a small battery only 60AH with a lot of parasitic draw.should be 90.
In addition charging system doesn't run all the time for fuel economy .
If you watch the volt gauge you will see it mainly charges under braking..
My 992 only ran @12.2-12.8v my gt3 with the li-on runs a constant 13.4-13.5 the GT4 i had ran @ 14.7?

Connect to the + post on the battery, and the grounding post on firewall, and run the cable like I have, or any other area that’s accessible without having to open the frunk.
