Default Steering column gap

Quick question. Is the gap underneath the steering column normal or am I missing a trim piece?

Have put 4k miles on my GTS but recently the exposed silver unit inside that gap is catching my eye when entering/exiting the car.

Normal. It’s space to accommodate the movement of the column.

The only people who look at their steering column, are those who had it wrapped in leather. The rest of us have never seen ours.
