Default Out of State Purchase

Considering an out of state purchase. Is a video walk through OK or is in person inspection a must? Please share your experiences.

I got burnt multiple times not doing a real PPI...I was lazy and paid for it. Just last week I returned a car after driving it off the lot, lucky me in this case it was an easy task as the car was sold to me not street legal (even though that was not the issue I had).

An inspection is a good idea if the video walkthrough passes your initial sniff test.

I've bought multiple cars out of state. No regrets. I used lemonsquad.com last time around. Good experience.

There was a recent thread in the Turbo S section of someone taking delivery and subsequently finding a messed up bumper that the dealer did not notice, so they are getting it fixed retroactively but if the dealer didn't believe them I could imagine that being a hassle.

inspect it yourself after a video walkthrough is a good idea, plane tickets aren't worth more than damage on the car will cost

Totally different scenario, but I recently bought a Cayenne that was on the other side of the country. Even worse, it was in Ohio so rust was a concern.

I had the dealership send me a TON of detailed photos of all panels, both interior and exterior, as well as several shots of the underside. Study the photos or videos very closely. Zoom in and cover every inch of the car or photo. It is very easy to miss small defects or damage. I was able to see everything with the photos the dealership provided me. They were also willing to take videos, drives, or bring it in for a PPI if I wanted it. If the seller wont agree to do those, I would walk away.

When I got to the car, there were no surprises and I had a great experience. Hope you do too!

If you aren't buying CPO then PPI. I was fortunate enough when buying my C4s that I had someone close by to the dealership who went and inspected the car. In short, don't be cheap. Get it properly inspected.

I'm buying out of state. Car has 7500 miles. Had a walk around video, close up pics. Asked for service records and DME report for over-revs. Car is CPO until 2025 and has full body PPF so that makes things much easier. I didn't get a PPI.

I would ask for under body pics with the car on the rack. If the car is not CPO and has multiple owners and high miles, then a PPI is an added bit of insurance to make you feel better about the buy.

Some dealers nowadays are balking at PPIs. They don't want the hassle - the chips have been in their favor for the past few years, so some feel entitled to decline PPIs. I don't think that's a deal breaker necessarily, but due diligence needs to be greater.

Thanks. Looking at a new car direct from the dealer.

A new car from a Porsche dealer, I’d have no concerns. Video and pics are sufficient. Make sure mileage is low.
