Default Power Steering Plus

I just received an allocation for a Targa 4S after having been on the waiting list for a year. The freeze date is 5 days from now. I had not picked Power Steering Plus in my build but my SA said it helps with parking in tight spaces. It is a very cheap option so I'll probably get it unless there is some downside to it. Does anyone know if it interferes with steering once the car is driving at a regular speed or are there any other problems with it?

Here we go again. This topic has been covered in several threads already. You will definitely get two conflicting recommendations. Maybe you should just try it and make the decision. But, my understanding is that PSP provides lighter steering effort (via programming) when parking only. My C2 has it but I don't know how much of a difference it makes.

I am not a fan and have had it removed from my 992. The car feels more planted and solid without it.

It does nothing other than when driving very slowly such as maneuvering in a parking garage or a slow U turn for example. It makes the steering at very slow speeds feel as light as if you were going 70 mph on the highway, otherwise it changes nothing for normal driving. Its just software code for the electric rack that is activated by the wheel speed sensors, hence the cheap price. I think it was only $250 on my 981 if I recall correctly, but that was some years ago.

Is parking with regular power steering really an effort?

Not at all. This is one of those options that you can easily live without, no differently than different color seat belts or gauges. Many go ahead and tick the box just because its super cheap compared to the crazy prices on the other options.

Exactly. Had it on my last car and don't have it on my current car......didn't really notice. Silly option IMO.

That's in your head. It does exactly nothing above parking lot speeds.

It only is functional below 31 mph. Totally up to the individual

If you have no upper body strength, get PSP.

It's impossible to try it since there are no cars to test drive.
We have it and it's unnoticeable save that the car is very easy to park. Unlike my old G model Carrera which required shoulder strength.

My parking spot at work is a bit tight so I got it. Makes it easier to maneuver in this tight spot I have. Don't notice any difference at speed, but for me it is well worth the $300 or so it costs.

If you are that afraid...pay for it and get it. Then you can uninstall it ( the dealer can do it not you ).
Or ....don't get it and install it afterwards at dealer.

It's simply software.

Skip it, and if you want it after delivery, buy your SA a six-pack of their favorite craft beer and they can code it in for you.
