My new to me 2020 911 Carrera S Cabriolet is incredible. I have owned a lot of cars, but nothing compares to this one. I took it out for my first drive earlier today. The sound is awesome. I was just on a local road and quickly accelerated up to 75 miles an hour and was still in 3rd gear. I have never driven a manual transmission car with this kind of acceleration and power.
I could use some help with the management system. I saw the service necessary warning when I was messing around with the settings. I can scroll to a message saying service necessary but it does not say what service, I can scroll to oil maintenance and I assume this is what is triggering the message. The car only has 3000 miles and had an oil change a year ago. The prior owner drove less than 1000 miles in the past year. The oil gauge reads full.
Questions to the group:
1. Am I correct that the service warning is for the yearly oil change?
2. Should I change the oil yearly even without driving that many miles? I have two BMW M cars and I do change the oil in those cars yearly even though they are low mileage cars.
3. Do I require an after market tool to reset the service messages?
So, yes, the cars internal program wants the oil and filter changed. Both Time and/or Mileage are the variables. In Porsche’s infinite wisdom there is no Do It Yourself way to turn this notification off. There are many threads on this forum trying to find a Scan Tool (for a reasonable price) that will allow the owner to cycle this notification. Some Porsche dealers will do this for you without performing the oil change, but many will want to charge you something for this “service”. IMHO this is NOT one of Porsche’s better ideas.
