The most important thing to understand is the with Actual Cash Value (ACV), which is what most insurance companies offer, you are at the mercy of an adjuster, who will undervalue your car if its totaled, and offer to pay you Ford wages for a Porsche repair, which wont cover half the repair cost. Any informed Porsche owner will have Agreed Value insurance.
CA has all sorts of laws around insurance and how insurance companies can't (lots of grey area here so i'm generalizing) price based on risk. Because of this a ton of insurance companies are pulling out of the state all together. Its quite insane. I just had to renew and my broker went to 8 companies and only 2 would insure a Porsche in Los Angeles. For the porsche I was paying about 380/month before this renewal and it went up this year to about $515/month to insure. So for a 2024 Escalade, a 2023 Wrangler 392 and a 2024 Targa 4S I pay $931/month. Brutal.
EDIT: just for further context i'm early 40s, never claimed a penny on any of my insurance policies, perfect driving record.
I was just quoted $7,400 a year by Hagerty for a $275k Turbo S. 32 years old with perfect driving record living in SoCal. Should I just accept my fate? Its looking like us californians are going to be hammered by insurance rates regardless.

Keep shopping around. State Farm came in at half of what Hagerty offered, though, Hagerty was my next best option.
I'm paying $7g a year for 4 cars with full coverage in the Tampa Bay area with AAA insurance. I also have 2 Telsla Model Ys which are a little more expensive to insure.
