Default Car arrived - Damage during PDI

Hi all,

So my long awaited car arrived has arrived two days ago. Unfortunately during the PDI it was damaged while removing the bumper foam protector. (See pictures)

While the dealer is responsible to fix the issue, i do have two questions:

1- I was worried that it would be a full rear bumper paint job. But the dealer explain they will use a method called “smart patch” or something like that. I can’t remember the exact name.

2- How much is a fair discount should i get on the price of the car given the damage. The dealer offered a free factory warranty extension (up to 4 from 2 years included with the car) and a couple of grans of the price.

thanks for your input in advance.

Congratulations on your new ride! They will be able to fix that easily, and it will be 100% impossible to ever tell that anything was ever wrong. I think their offer (your number 2 above) is generous and fair. I've had many similar spots repaired over the years, and modern bodywork is just amazing. I honestly think you have nothing to worry about. It's will be perfect. Go enjoy your new ride.

Also, keep in mind, many cars come off the boats with far more extensive damage that gets fixed at PDI before it even makes it to the dealer. Most of which, you would never know of or have any idea about. This one is no biggie at all

Stuff like that happens all the time on new cars and the owners are mostly totally unaware of it. Be happy you know and with the offer; really they didn't need to say anything.

My convertible came with a top stain, the dealer and the regional tech told me to go pound sand.. that's pre COVID, when they mildly cared about customer satisfaction.

Take #2, you seem to be lucky with your dealer.

I will be interested to see how the "smartpatch" looks. I would assume they'd have to paint the whole bumper.

Ditto - that is an easy fix, and 2 extra years of CPO, that is a bargain.

I toured the BMW PDI facility in NJ many times - you would be amazed at what they fix on these cars and still call them "new", to include Rolls Royce. This is nothing.

Lots of "damage" gets fixed at PDI.

I think the dealer only has to disclose damage that exceeds a certain dollar amount (something like 5k? not sure).

This was no doubt the folks at the port should have caught and fixed, but didn't. If they did, and fixed it, you'd be no wiser.

So in the grand scheme of things, consider yourself lucky I guess.
