Default Thoughts on Power Steering Plus?

Hello all,

Wanted to ask your thoughts and opinions on the Power Steering Plus option for a base 992. As the price for this option itself is low, I would say it's not a factor for my decision to get it or not. So it would be purely based on whether it is a good option to have for the car, driving experience, etc.

Much appreciated.

Makes steering a little easier at low speed/parking etc. Not a deal breaker one way or the other but if if you are not concerned to stay exact within a certain budget I would opt for it. I have it and its fine.

I have it on my GTS, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary. It can be added via software from dealer after delivery if you feel like you’re too weak to turn the steering wheel after you’ve had the car a few weeks.

It’s really only beneficial for parking, not at speed.

I see a lot of disdain for this option on these forums; if living in US suburbs etc definitely not needed but if you live in a dense city like I do with lots of narrow parking garages it is nice to have as it makes parking maneuvers easier.
I’ve driven with and without; it’s not about being “weak” but simply makes low-speed parking smoother since you can turn the front wheels more quickly - think 3-point turn.

IMHO the stock steering when stopped is more than enough, any more and I fear it’d be like spinning a video game steering wheel.

I have it on mine, but not sure how it compares to the one without that option. My sales advisor recommended it and obviously the cost wasn't a factor.

In the 60s I had a car with manual steering and that was work when parking. When I got power steering in my next car-parking was a breeze. I do not understand the need for power steering plus unless Porsche power steering is inferior which I doubt.

AJ Tokyo in post #4 has a good explanation, but turning the wheel more quickly is not for me a reason to get power steering +---parking is not a race-(unless your wife is in labor and you are taking her to the ER or are very late for an appointment)

Agreed, view it as a nice steak dinner and a bottle of wine or a few cocktails that lasts for the life of the vehicle!

Successful parallel parking on the first try typically requires a pretty aggressive crank of the steering wheel to initiate the "threading" and a careful, slow release of the angle as the relatively wide *** of our cars is eased in within 6 inches of the curb. Parallel parking is the maneuver that best showcases Power Steering Plus. I love parallel parking perfectly in one shot in front of a sidewalk full of brunch diners. Alternatively, if you roll up in a car like this and you can't park it properly on your first try, people will judge. LOL

My prior car was an Alfa 4c. My 911 without that feels pretty easy to turn….

If you have doubts, you're dealer can program it after you take delivery (or delete it).

It's simply a software hack, not a hardware issue.

I've never understood why it's needed. I was advised to add it to but didn't bother and never thought twice about it since. Given how many sales dudes recommend it I'm wondering if it's almost 100% margin for them; as @ipse dixit says it's really just a software switch.

Trouble with this option is unless you drive a car with and without, back to back in order to compare, none of us really have a clue. And when people do get a chance to drive a few cars back to back they are usually more concerned with other options such as rear wheel steer or PDCC to be thinking about steering. I’ve never seen any complaints from people that don’t have it and similarly never heard any from those that do. I have it but strongly suspect I’d have been fine without and it’s just a way for Porsche to extract a few more quid out of the deal.
