I had this happen on the floorboard behind the driver's seat. I mopped up what I could. Soaked it a few times with dawn and warm water and vacuumed it out. I also lifted the carpet to get any residue that seeped through. Then I took it to the local car wash and had them suction it with their high-powered carpet cleaner. Never would have known it happened. Needless to say, oil now gets sealed in a couple of plastic bags before it goes anywhere near the car.

Experience comes from bad judgement or proportional to equipment ruined...

The oil blowup made me think of this as a safety solution. Vacuum bagged will be less permeable than something like a zip lock bag:

I locked the oil can in a tight Tupperware and placed in the trunk.
