Default Fuel Flap Stuck Closed

Yup...the fuel filler flap door is stuck closed.

2022 C2 Cabriolet, 2018 miles and we drove out to a brewery and home. Got stuck in a rainstorm and then decided to wash it (in the rain yipppeee) when I got home and my OCD was driving me crazy.

Normal wash with the pressure washer foam cannon and hose rinse. I opened the flap to dry it off inside and dried it then went to put a wee bit of Bead Maker inside there and bam...she wouldn't open. The door looks a little inset towards the rear of the car, where you push it to open it, which I thought was weird. It won't push to indent at all, the far side towards the front of the car won't either (just trying everything), and I locked, unlocked and let it run the turned it off and zero change.

I did pull the little cable feature in the doorjamb up high to release it and nothing. I did that a few times and the cable wouldn't even retract after three times, so I called it a day, walked to the beer fridge and popped a cold IPA.

I did a quick search here and nothing would populate, however I think I do remember reading about that somewhere, but just can't find it now.

Thoughts? Ideas?

I do have about 3/4 of a tank left with the extended tank option so I'm not going to run her dry anytime soon.

@ipse dixit Thanks. I gyrated through all that and will head out to the garage this morning and give it another whirl. Maybe I need to just go drive it.

EDIT: tried all that again and when the emergency release cable and end **** retracted, it disappeared into the hole and back into the car somewhere. Visit scheduled to the dealership for July 29.

Update if anyone has this problem in the future:

Dealer said it was the fuel flap actuator that failed. They opened the flap for me and put a quick fix of sticky felt/foam on there so it would stay closed while driving or sitting, but I could open it and put fuel in it when needed. They ordered the part and it will take 6 weeks and arrive (cough cough) the second week of September.

When I wash the car, I do open the fuel flap and get water in there and a wash mitt, then rinse it. I don't use the pressure washer for that, just hose water from the hose directly.

I will update when it is fixed, if there are any more concerns or aha moments. For now, I think it is just a simple failure of a part.

2022, delivered January 2022, built over early Dec 2021, if it matters.

How did they ultimately open the flap?

Not quite sure. I will definitely ask when they replace the actuator.

I actually went to Costco for fuel today and the f*ing thing wouldn't open.

I have the same issue…car was in heavy rain overnight and I went for a drive to the hardware store and saw the fuel low warning come on, so I went to the closest petrol station. After trying for 5 minutes to open the flap (v embarrassing…people must have thought I’d stolen it), trying everything you tried - locking, unlocking, pulling the cable inside the door frame, but nothing would make it release. With only 45 kms range remaining and only 1 km from the Porsche service centre, I took it to them to get their advice. The service manager said he’d seen a few similar issues and tried the same things I did…pulled the release cable until it then disappeared into the bodywork.

They booked it in for repair, as the only way to get the locking actuator out is to remove the wheel, take the inner wheel arch trim out and then access the bolts to remove the parts. I just got it back after 5 days in the repair shop and the parts replaced were:
- PO992809714A 1 set adapter parts
- PO992809857A Fuel filler flap module

It was repaired under warranty of course, but crazy that such a simple part could disable such an expensive car 6 months after purchasing it ! Hope this helps anyone with the same issue, although looked like a massive job if you were to try doing it yourself !

MY CAR: 911 992 4S Cabriolet
March 2022 build, June 2022 compliance
