Anyone stupid enough to pay $200K for a C8 Z06, or any Vette for that matter, needs to have their head examined. I could be Bill Gates and not spend $200K on that lump of junk. My son and I were at the Chevy Dealership last week picking up his Silverado after an oil change and what else was sitting there? Yup a C8 Vette, in the Service Department, with only several hundred miles, for sale-as is with no warranty. (Don't know if the factory warranty is still active on a sale like that.) It sounded great when the Service Advisor started it-I'll admit that-but there's no way I'd ever consider buying one. And that's coming from a guy who was born and raised in Detroit and also owns a 2017 Chevrolet SS sports sedan daily driver. I happen to like some sleepers, and the only reason I bought the SS was because it was a limited run car and built in Australia. Moreover, my mechanic told me its completely hit or miss with the C8. Some have zero problems, and some are disasters. I know the same could be said for many cars, and you can call me a snob, but I'm convinced there's a completely different work ethic in Germany than here in the U.S.. Just watch a few YouTube videos of domestic factories and European factories and you'll see what I mean. Over there everyone is in a uniform, no one speaks and just works (at least while the cameras are on), and the factories themselves look like scientific clean rooms compared to the U.S. factories. I'll take Porsche any day of the week and twice on Tuesday before ever buying a domestic car again.

The youtube video of the ZO6 "putting the world on notice" was pretty cool- to me the car looks great, but I'm not sure it's a $200k car...sounds kinda high to me. That's the 1st Corvette I've even remotely liked.

We can debate and obsess over the stats and reviews from the auto journalist and debate the merits of 911 vs C8 etc....but at the end of the day, I always contend that there are Porsche people and there are Corvette people. I, myself, am a Porsche person and would drive a Porsche even if the 911 was half the performance of a C8. I am sure the C8 is a great car, but i prefer high quality finishes in my cars just like i prefer an aged Cabernet over a newer Cabernet that is more brash and loud.

It is risky to wade in on the Porsche vs. Corvette debate but here goes. First, I am 58 and have owned four Corvettes (two 1981s, a 1982, and a 1985, all of which were assembled in the Bowling Green assembly plant). I still have my 1982. I placed my demand order for a Targa 4S on November 6, 2021 (started out #5 on the wait list and now I am #3). Oh, also, with a nod to the Rolex watch debate on another thread, I do not have a Rolex watch. I still wear my Seiko Chronograph that my parents gave me for my birthday in 1985. It still keeps perfect time. But, I do want a Rolex Daytona and one day I plan to buy one.

I truly like the older Corvettes but their fit and finish were less than desirable and all of my Corvettes needed some work by me to improve the otherwise poor fit and finish. I am sure that over time Chevrolet has made improvements to fit and finish but probably not quite up to par with Porsches. Chevrolet probably makes twice as many Corvettes per year than Porsche makes 911s and I submit that with a lower production numbers I bet the Corvette fit and finish would improve. The obvious of course is that reasonably optioned Porsche is outrageously more expensive than a Corvette. My Targa 4S will sticker at about $199K. We don't yet know the pricing of a Z06 Corvette but some on this forum suggest the price will be around $100K which I think is low. I think the Z06 will be $110K to $115K but what do I know. Still, even at $115K, that is $85K less than my demand order Targa 4S. I sat in a '22 Corvette recently and was impressed. It felt good, looked good, and I loved the mid-engine design. I wish I could have driven it. In the final analysis, however, the Corvette design was just a little too "loud" for me. I prefer the subtle look of the Porsche at my age but the price tag still gives me second thoughts from time to time. Imagine what I could do with an extra $85K laying around.

Here's the thing about Corvette's fit and finish.

At the sub-100k price point, or around 65-90k MSRP for a C8, the fit and finish is just fine. Heck, compare it to the M2 CS (which is around the same price point) and that thing from Bavaria has an angled seat, and leather so precious a pair of jeans will leave scuff marks.

To say that the 911 has better fit and finish than the C8 is absolutely true, but only tells half the story. The other half being that a comparable 911 is about 50k more expensive than the C8. So there's that. For 50k, one should expect better fit and finish than a car costing less than 50k.

Why don't people here complain about the 911's fit and finish compared to a Roma? Or a Bentley? Heck, every time I get into the Ferrari the pure suppleness of the leather is simply overwhelming, and makes the hide that lines the 911 seem abrasive by comparison.

It is likely they will start moving allocations to the US. They may have a hard time maintaining the current sales volume in the EU/UK later this year if things continue down the current path.

No question they’d be motivated to shift from Europe to the US at least in the short run. Who wouldn’t rather convert assets to dollars instead of Euros right now, based on previously set prices that don’t adjust to exchange rates? The question is how quickly they can pivot.
