The hybrid is the 994, the one that comes after the 992.2. Again, assuming current auto journalism is correct.

I was expecting the alleged July allocations to be 2023 models in whatever form it is (992.1 or 992.2).
Maybe if it's a 'NEW" allocation and not an old one, pushed already .
As a car that went into production in April let's say ( you have your serial #) and is not finished yet...can not be changed to MY2023 even if it will be finished producing in November 2022 let's say. Once you have the serial number ( which includes the year ) it will not change year , even if produced in November 2022- lol , i'm exaggerating but you never know and you get the point.

Correct. The model year is part of the VIN. Once a VIN is issued, the model year cannot be changed.

Not all refreshes are improvements so I would always suggest taking the bird in hand

I was at the dealership yesterday, and my SA had heard the configurator will be updated shortly for MY 2023 (he declined to provide an exact date)...but that he had not heard that the refresh will for MY 2023.

The 2023 configurator refresh will include the exciting new price increases for the MY2023 cars.

All ado about nothing. Porsche changes model year production on July 1st of most years. They usually introduce updates, most are small, at that time. The switch from 2021 production to 2022 production last July 1st saw the change to PCM 6.0 which was fairly substantial. Likely will not affect existing options or cars in process other than they will be 2023 models. Lucky purchasers who have have their orders in and the car is built after July 1st get a one year newer car, essentially saving a year of depreciation.

Seems like all past bets are off this year due to our new world reality and because my July build will still be a my 2022 and my sales agreement is at the 2022 pricing.

I don’t care about depreciation at this point and am just happy to get in on what may end up being the last month(s) build of a 992 with most of the new model bugs fixed. Hopefully!
I haven’t been impressed with the pictures of the changes for the 992.2 and based on the price increases we’re seeing on everything else in the last years and the supply/demand crunch prices will go up more then ever before.

Like a fine watch versus an Apple Watch, I'd wager that a small number of future buyers will prefer and seek out the physical, milled tach of the 992 versus the all-digital cluster of the upcoming 992.2.

It will be the next iteration of air-cooled vs water-cooled or hydraulic steering vs electric steering...

I would be happy if the 2023 improvements were just absence of or at least lower incidence of rattles, fluid leaks, and software glitches.

None of those things were an issue with my 2020 over the course of 2.5 years and more than 35k miles.

You are not wrong. The 992.1 will be the last 911 with an actual analog tachometer.
