Default iPE Exhaust?

Anyone have any opinions of iPE exhaust - full or otherwise - on 992?

Thanks

I have many opinions on a 991.

None of which are good.

When we had our 992 Turbo S we tried on all the premium exhaust brands for the car - the IPE was arguably the best sounding one of the bunch. It's the one we ended up keeping on the car (video below). Let us know if you have specific questions that I can help answer for you.

was it just the center part of the IPE exhaust on the turbo S or with the sport cats and headers combo ?

On our car we did the full system - headers, high flow cats, and muffler.

Not a fan of the excessive pops and bangs...something I would not want on a Porsche.

The pops and bangs (also known as burble) is controlled by the ECU tune, not the exhaust. It can be added or eliminated based on what the customer wants. We wanted to add a bit of burble to ours so we had it added.

Yes, I am aware. I would not call that burble but in any case, it just does not suit a Porsche. They just sound out of place on these small displacement V6 turbo engines.

Bad fitment, poor construction.

On top of that, it made the 991 TTS sound like, well, a poorman's JDM Subaru WRX.

Personally, if I am going to add an aftermarket exhaust, I want it to make my Porsche sound more Porsche like, I don't want it to make my Porsche sound less Porsche, even if it is louder or noisier (in the case of an iPE exhaust).

What does it mean to sound “more Porsche like”?

I feel like my exhaust set up sounds very “Porsche like” but then I don’t know if somebody else will feel differently

There's no way to measure what "Sounding Like A Porsche" because it's subjective. It's just his opinion. Everyone will like something a little different. Almost everyone that heard our 992 Turbo, and subsequent cars with IPE's installed, have loved the way it sounds.

In the case of your setup (which is my setup), you have a "Porsche-like" sound. It has taken the natural flat-6 tone and turned the volume up.

I would agree. I think I have the same sound, it hasn’t been altered. The turbos whistle way louder, but otherwise the flat six is allowed to sing a bit more

Another data point. I just got the SS IPE valved exhaust installed (no DP, no cat) on my base with original PSE. I love the change. Still sounds "like a Porsche" just a little more pronounced even in normal mode. Nothing annoying loud or excessive but I now know I have an exhaust even in normal mode and it gets a bit more pronounced in sport/sport plus. Cold start for sure is loud and I would not want to have the valves open all the time (considered it but would make it too loud at low RPM cruising for my taste). Quality and fitment - nothing to complain about so far from what I can tell. Installed fine and no valve rattle or similar.

Quick Reply: iPE Exhaust?
