Default Seat bottom cracked— warranty?

Just noticed this when cleaning my car this weekend. Only 5k miles. Rarely have any passengers. All other seats are perfect. Thoughts? Warranty? Thanks in advance!

Perf'd leather is pretty strong and hard to tear. Being in the leather business I have never seen that as a defect personally, but have seen it as impact damage. is most curious and unusual. You can try warranty, the worst they can do is deny it and say you may have placed an object in the seat that caused it.

There are no scratches, indentation, or or puncture. It’s like the gray part of the leather is lifting off the black backing. The seat is not completely cracked between the holes. Just delaminating. I owned dozens of cars with these types of seats and never had any issues and I’m very careful. I hope they cover this.

I’d be more worried about that red circular line on the seat….. looks like someone used a permanent marker. 😱

Agreed with Dr. Collie. This looks like some inadvertent damage.

It does look like a puncture. If I was the decision maker I wouldn’t cover this under warranty. Maybe you have a really good relationship with the dealer and it’ll get covered. Hard to say. Good luck and please report back.

It isn’t a puncture. I just took it to the dealership. They agreed it’s the gray portion separating from the leather itself. They are going to order a seat cover. Unfortunately 4-6 months.

That’s amazing! Such a weird defect.

Anyway, glad to hear a happy ending.

Nice! They covered it for you. Glad to hear that. Make sure you give you dealer kudos for that as it could have gone either way.

Yeah, it looks different in person. He flaked off some more pieces. Just the grey top layer. Didn’t even argue.

Glad they are covering it. I also had a seat cover replaced under warranty for what they deemed to be premature wear. It’s approx a $5k fix, the part is about $4k and they have to re and re the seat. They’ll probably sublet the cover installation to an upholstery shop.
