Is a 24-month long waiting period pretty typical

After spending my mid-20s through my 30s in Porsches (a Boxster and then three 911s), I spent the ensuing decade in SUVs (kids, bruh). Now, however, I’m ready to get back into a 911 and am of course excited. In calling around to a few dealerships, I’m finding out two things: (1) many dealerships are not taking orders from folks outside their locality unless they’re a repeat customer, and (2) the best I can do is get on the waiting list for an allocation somewhere, and the wait from waiting list to delivery is likely around 24 months.
Are my findings generally consistent with what others are seeing?
I figure the issue of allocations and wait times is well-trod territory on this board, but my search efforts have resulted in detailed accounts of what individual people have experienced, while I’m hoping there might be those who just have a general sense of the situation from a more macro level.

China doesn't want it to be over. COVID lockdowns are part of their trade policy now. When they want an upper hand, they lockdown a region. It both disrupts the US supply chain, and the US media picks up images of the lockdown and tries to get the West to do the same. In this round, they locked down 51 million people for 3400 cases. 3400 cases.

Back in Nov '21 I was quoted 9-24 months from order to delivery. Then in early Jan '22 I too was offered European Delivery that would grant me an allocation. Being 4th in line at the time, I did not hesitate one sec and took it! I thought if ED was somehow cancelled, they will automatically turn it into a standard US delivery. I see it as a win-win.
With all that is going on now, I can definitely see a 24 month.
