Lightbulb Rate My Build - 992 Base

Hi there! Would love your guys' thoughts on my build (received allocation last week).

http://www.porsche-code.com/PNPKRUT5

Some background:
-Will mainly use for casual driving, e.g. going to Napa with the wife.
-I have a toddler/baby and I expect I'll use the car some times to pick them up from school, etc. Our other car is a 7 seater SUV.
-Plan to keep the car for 5-10 years.

LMK if I missed anything major, or anything that's not necessary. Thank you!

I think the build looks really great for a casual driver. I had maybe three thoughts which I’ll let more of the hardcore or guys who have had 12 911’s hopefully weigh in on.

I have been told the power steering plus doesn’t add a ton, it’s only $280 so it’s probably not worth stressing.

I like the Sports exhaust and you paid for the $950 on the silver pipes, maybe it’s worth $2K for the sound. However, in Cali it may be muted more? Also, I have heard some dealers can do something to give you an upgrade to the sound for free-ish.

Other thing would be ppf. If it’s casual you may not be planning to wrap the car, if you are doing your own wrap that’s cool. However, I’d consider Porsches factory wrap for basic protection if it’s not going on the track. Maybe some guys who got the Porsche wrap could weigh in here. I’m not sure if it will save you any money doing it with them, but one less thing to have to do.

Skip power steering plus! I don't like the feel. YMMV.

Get the wrap done yourself.

Very nice build.
As others have said, skip power steering plus.
Front axle lift on a base with stock suspension is a waste of $, IMO. Car isn't that low...
I'd spend that money on the sports exhaust option.

It also helps for resale, as PSE is a sought after option

  • Power Steering Plus is fine
  • You can probably skip FAL unless your home driveway is particularly challenging
  • Standard interior isn't commensurate with a $127k car. You spend your time inside the car. Make it nice.
  • PSE is a worthwhile option, but if you're working towards a budget, skippable.

Personal preference of course, but the standard mojave/black avoids the black cave interior, goes well with guards red and is a bargain for $700.
The window trim in gloss black would look nice, I'd also add the red tach in a red car.

Nearly $130K is a lot for a car without full leather.

Thanks everyone - really appreciate all of the feedback, I have lots of thinking to do! Would it be crazy/ugly to have Guard Red exterior + Black/Bordeaux Red two tone all leather interior? (videos are tricky to gauge).

My base 992 order just past freeze point so I can tell you my experience from someone who spent months debating.

- if you r weekend driving this, not commute in rush hour, you don’t need acc. You want to enjoy every bit of driving on your way to Napa.
- 18 ways is good cuz back is plastic. 14 way is leather which will be bad for toddler’s feet.
- front lift is not needed since u don’t have sports design or lowered spam
- save money from acc and lift to get leather package.

also if U go leather plz don’t get red. Get black or truffle.

I live in Fremont we can drive up to Napa together.

Thanks undersky2 - very insightful, I had no idea about the seats. Do you think Front Lift would be needed for SF downtown? Let's definitely do a Napa trip!

FAL would be nice for SF downtown, not critical, but nice to have.

Heated steering wheel is totally not necessary anywhere in NoCal.

sf roads r steeps but even the steepest road won’t matter to you. What will scratch the bottom are some exits like from a parking lot into the road but the ramp is going downward into the road with sharp angle. This is commonplace not unique to sf. However I believe it’s cheap to replace the bottom black plastic of the front fender. My current 992 has aerokit and has scratched a few times. I never notice any cosmetic changes from outside.

I have FAL on a Targa 4. I take a slightly different take and think it is needed for city driving. In the Bay Area, it might be indispensable. It works flawlessly by the way, and one can program as many locations as needed. The front uses GPS and raises up at any saved location. Now, while it might not be "necessary" on a car that's doesn't have SPASM, that does not mean it is not very useful. Not only does it give me complete peace of mind, but it allows me to go at a more normal speed on dips and bumps, instead of slowing way down to a near stop like I would (just to be extra careful) without FAL. I am very happy I optioned it.

FAL isn't necessary, of course.

It just makes driving easier, and less of a hassle, where you can let your mind wander a bit, or fidget with your PCM and Apple Carplay without worrying about every single speed bump or dip, or having to break out your protractor for every entry or driveway ingress/egress you try to navigate.
