Default Too Late for PPF?

Hi Friends,

Long story short, never got PPF but only got ceramic on entire car. 2 years later, I should’ve gotten PPF. Front has chips and some scratches from rocks. Now I’m wondering what I should do? I personally HATE seeing the front end like this. Has a couple noticeable chips and just doesn’t look how I’d want it to. What do you guys suggest? Get it fixed then PPF? Or just get it PPF now? Thanks in advance!

It's never too late for PPF. A good detailer can touch up the chips and deal with scratches. It will look as good as new and be protected.

I PPF'd my 991.1 2 years and 12k miles in. It was definitely worthwhile.

Can you post some pics of where you have some of the damage?

I think the detailer can put touch up paint on th chips if small enough and then put ppf over it and you won't be able to tell.

There - fixed it for you. You can respray the front and it may turn out great - but won't be factory paint and you might be able to tell it's been resprayed. Scratches, if only in clearcoat, can be easily taken care of. Chips can be handled in a variety of ways depending on how big they are. Dr. Colorchip works amazingly well for small chips - the problem with any chip is you can match the color but you'll never get the "depth" to match and depending on how discerning your eye is you'll still see it. So, there are trade offs.

I have had my car ceramic coated and PPFd. The process as it was explained to me was that it needed to be properly washed and paint corrected, then PPFd, and then ceramic coated. I think since you got ceramic coated first it may not be as simple as touching it up. As others have said, it would be best to talk to your installer to see if he can fix it and what the process would be.

Not sure what. too late means, but if you're going to PPF definitely fix the blemishes first, either with touch-up (not recommended) or a complete repaint (preferred).

It usually requires machine polishing to remove a quality ceramic coating. For the PPF to adhere correctly the ceramic coating would likely need to be removed prior to PPF application.

No PPF for me unless I was tracking the car or driving highway rush hour with all the trucks . My detailer can fix tine scratches and blemishes. Anything larger is a repaint . I have never seen a PPF where I cant find "the line" . One of the best I saw was a buddy who had his BMW done . It was a lease car and BMW made him take it off . He went through a 6 hour ordeal only to say "never again". PPF is not a force field . It cant stop the boulder from falling off the mountain . I am neurotic with my cars to a limit and PPF exceeds mine .

Never too late to PPF but getting satisfactory results (whatever level of aesthetic satisfaction that means to you) takes a bit more effort...and suspense.

Picked up a 12k mile CPO 981 Cayman in 09/2019, corrected the paint and ceramic coated if: 2016 Cayman Prep & Coating. After another 12k miles the chips and such were starting to bother me so had a few areas resprayed and then PPF'd and coated the whole thing. Was it worth it? To me...yes. To someone else? Perhaps not. It really comes down to how you are going to drive the car (I drive it every chance i get), how long you are going to keep it (for me, until it's used up), whether you care about originality (I don't) and how much the little things with regards to appearance bother you (for me, a lot).

You certainly can go back in time w/ regards to PPF...if you want.

8 911’s since 1985. One with PPF because it had it on it when I bought it used. Incoming 992 will be without it and not getting trailered anywhere. Just going to drive it like they are made for.

Go to a reputable detailer for a paint correction. Then you can PPF.

I PPF’d a 2003 996 with 103K miles. Paint wasn’t perfect but was good for the age/miles. Kept it that way. Worth it.
