I’m pretty confident that in a couple more generations, the 911 will look, sound and perform quite differently from today’s 992, or like any former 911. That is because every indicator shows the evolution is away from ICE only powered cars. May not be this decade, but soon, all but a few of the 911 variants will have electric motors and batteries wedged into the car’;s future design. Enjoy the 992, as we know it, because it may be one of the last of it’s kind…..

Addressing the OP’s original question, I have owned 9 Porsches (4 MT, 4 PDK, 1 Trip) during past 42 years including a 1977 911S G body, a 997.1, a 997.2S and a 991.1S. The G body 911 was a great car but had no AC, inadequate interior heat, no radio to speak of and leaked excessive oil out of its magnesium split case and valve covers (which was caused by inadequate cooling issues, etc.)…but lotsa FUN to drive in the mountains. I loved that car. It was excellent for 1977 era technology. The 997 platform was a substantial improvement over the 996 in every category. It was 2006 era technology. The 991 platform was another substantial improvement over the 997 platform in every category except maybe steering. I loved my 991.1S (especially the sound) but was given an opportunity to test drive a factory 992S PDK for two days….. including some track time. I drove it hard. After that test drive, I ordered a 992S MT because , IMHO, the 992 platform is again a very substantial improvement over the 991 platform. The digital, interior, engineering and mechanical upgrades are significant. So to directly answer your question, I would rather have a 992 than a G body, 964, 993, 996, 997 or 991 based on this 42 year experience. I loved my 1977 911S but have no desire to return to 1977 technology. As technology has evolved (especially computers and microprocessors) Porsche engineers have leveraged it to make substantial upgrades in the 911. The 992 is 2022 era technology (SUMEBore cylinder liners, Piezo injectors, etc..). It is highly reliable and not susceptible to catastrophic damage after the warranty expires ( IMS, bore scoring, PDK distance sensor, etc.) IMHO, it is the best 911 to date. Other opinions may differ.

Excellent point! If you want a 911 with a ICE, no gas particulate filter, and a MT, get it now. PDK is great too, but those who prefer a MT will most likely lose the MT option with future hybrid/EV versions.

Yes. As far as I am aware, no such thing as a MT in a hybrid or all EV car.

A 981 Cayman might also be a good alternative if the 992 is too big/heavy . . .

I currently own a 1970 911ST and a 992 C2S. They are totally different cars. They both have their pluses and minuses. Yes, the 911ST is more nimble, noisier, and very raw, manual brakes, manual steering 2300lbs. My C2S is 1000 lbs heavier. You can definitely tell the weight difference. I would never give up my 992 to buy a 911. I daily drive my 992 and really enjoy it. It is also a much more capable car on the track. But, the 911 is very fun to drive but for a long trip, the 992 wins. I suggest you determine what is important to you and drive and early car before getting rid of the 992. You may end up regretting it.

OP, you are correct about older 911s. A Car and Driver review from many years ago said the 911 had all the amenities of an anvil. That's a track car.

At low RPM my 992 is a comfortable DD. At high RPM it changes character and screams. Where else can you find such a car?

I loved my 997 MT C4S and love my 992 MT C2S even more. I am so glad I never found a 991 to replace the 997 with and went to the 992 instead. I just love the interior. And when I drive my 992, that is where I spend all of my time.

If you don't like the 992, or don't like it enough, then get rid of it and get something else (like the 997, which you seem to be enamored with).

Life is too short to have to "settle" for a car -- especially a car retailing at around 150k.

There's no need to have to justify the purchase of the 911, even a little bit.

This post is not to laud the qualities of this car, for this there are many videos and articles that do just that.
I wanted to see if anyone else shares my same feelings: I feel the 992 to be too big, too luxurious, too fast for a 911. I'm in a country where 911's are plenty, and not a day goes by without me crossing into 964's, 930's, 997's, 996's, etc. and I often envy them a bit: these cars seem compact, nimble, more focused. Maybe in reality I wouldn't swap my 992 for a 997, but I can't help but envy a 997 a bit. I can't put my finger on it and I wonder if anyone else feels the same.
Dump out of your 992 as you have been told by others here if it is to big and "luxurious".
Possibly something like this may satisfy your needs:

Python Green!

i thoroughly enjoy my 992 4s. i've put 7k miles on it in 4 months of ownership. I have other cars like a tuned F90 M5 competition but I just end up in the 911 every time.

id be disillusioned if I bought a ferrari and it just sat in my garage because you would feel bad driving it. thats why if I have the urge I rent one for a few days and problem solved

I certainly hear you and you have many good points. I’m on Pcar #14 so I go back a ways.

They don’t just feel bigger they are bigger. But compared to the older cars they are just so much more capable and quick. Moving the engine closer to the middle with each generation has just made so good on the road and the track.

As far as luxury I would say they are finally getting the quality interiors they should have had years ago. My 997 TT was an unbelievable car to own but I wouldn’t trade my 991 TTS for it.

Drive it more and really experience it. If you are still left wanting maybe a 911 is not your best choice.

Also I very seldom hear sports car owners complain the car is too fast but have heard many say they wish their car was a little faster. It doesn’t have to be driven at WOT to be enjoyed.

The original Honda Insight combined a manual transmission with a hybrid drivetrain.

There are EV conversions with a manual drivetrain. So, that exists as well.
