I see dealers with cars - are these not really for sale?

Any insight appreciated. I keep finding dealer sites listing cars (that often don't last long) - are these really for sale, or more like "ready for pickup" by their owners.
Example: At this moment, Porsche Danbury has 2 911's

There are have been reports that a few dealers have actual 911s in stock and are really for sale.

Sometimes on Sundays I’ll browse the lot of the local Porsche dealership just out of curiosity. Last weekend I spotted two 911’s on the lot, which is pretty unusual. Upon closer inspection these were for the Porsche Drive program, where folks can buy into a subscription service to drive different cars at the dealership. So these weren’t for sale. I guess there’s a higher profit margin for the dealer renting these cars out versus selling them new.

If the dealer took the time to photograph the car properly. It’s likely for sale.
If the listing has computer generated images, it’s either inbound inventory or the car is auto populating into the dealer system in preparation for customer delivery. Likely the ladder.

My dealer has no 911 inventory but shows all incoming 911 on their website. However their customer allocated 911's never show up in a search of Porsche North America. Make me wonder if the Porsche North America site shows actual available stock. Anyone know?

It did for me in late July 2021. Saw the vehicle early AM on Porsche "Shop" site, contacted dealer after confirming "plan" with wife, had negotiated deal (including trade of 2019 Cayman) by 5 PM that evening. Vehicle was still en route from Germany - picked car up in early August. Worked extremely well for me.

Customer ordered cars will briefly appear on a dealer site. That being said, there do appear to be actual, in stock, 2022s at some dealers.
I suspect that many prospective 992 buyers who didn’t order a car have given up looking. If you want one, go looking, because they are out there. Now, that doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily dodge ADM or market adjustments, but at MSRP, these cars do move quickly.

Regardless of the above, inventory is significantly increased from a few months back. Do a search for C2S and several cars come up. Even if sold, it's an improvement from the recent past.
I think by the summer there will be cars to be chosen on the lots. Like pandemic puppies, lots of used cars will also come up.

Agree 100% - being flexible for me meant driving 650 miles to get the car. Worth it!

There are more dealers showing cars in stock now, you can look at Autotrader and see. Another CT dealer told me they are not customer ordering any 911s and all will be for dealer stock for the foreseeable future... Im sure other dealers are ordering some vehicles for dealer stock despite having people waiting to order. They will probably be trying to get over sticker for all these cars.

I went on Porsche.com/usa/ and if you search new it will actually tell you what dealer has what cars in stock; then go tot he website of the actual dealership. Sometimes the car is there but never is it at the price as indicated on the Porsche.com website.

from what I understand, there software floods them onto the web even when its an ordered car. The same thing happened to me when I ordered my 911 a couple of years ago...it was freaking me out that they were advertising it for sale, it was my car.

I predicted the price to drop some more by end of this year and looks like we are seeing that.
