992 Base and sport chrono opinions

OP, I should clarify my response relative to your question. I have a base with full leather and sport chrono. If I had to select one of these options over the other, I would definitely choose the interior over sc. You see the interior 100% of the time you are in the car, and I think the base interior is not appropriate for the price point of the car. You might consider getting full leather and sc instead of club leather, which gets you an upgraded interior (although perhaps less so vs club leather) and SC. Good luck!

I am certainly in a minority in that I do not have Sport Chrono and I do not regret leaving it off my build. As someone else in this thread has mentioned you do not miss what you never had.

No joke, a flat plane (Ferrari 358 for example) has a totally different exhaust note from various US cross plane V-8s and it's spectacular. The C-8 Corvette Z-06 sounds nothing like the base car, again spectacular. Yes, Porsche's flat six has a distinctive exhaust note, particularly the current GT3, but great sound is not exclusive to that beloved design. I'm particularly fond of the vintage Ferrari V-12 exhaust note.

Get the sport chrono package. It’s an absolute must if you want to drive the car the way it’s meant to be driven.
And PSE is a must. Most exhausts are best heard from the outside, so the argument that you can’t hear a difference from within the cabin is sort of a moot point. It sounds very nice from the outside, and if it really is important to hear it then get a cabriolet and drive with the top open, you will be smiling a lot and winking at the ladies all day

I have a base and didn't get either Sport Chrono or PSE. I'm very happy with the car. I use the Sport setting occasionally, but not that often. On occasional flings on twisting country roads the car in Sport is perfect for me. I also have the full leather interior. I added FAL and Innodrive, and use both features often. My intention with the build was to have a car that was comfortable on long drives and also practical as a daily driver. I have over 5,000 miles on it in six months, and am very pleased. The full leather makes a big difference as far as I'm concerned. Cost wasn't a factor in my build. I got everything I wanted, chose the base over an S for the perceived practicality.
My prior 911, a base 993 I bought new in 1998, absolutely wore me out on long trips with all the noise and necessary attention to shifting and keeping the car on track. It was uncomfortable as a daily driver as well. The tech in the car was dated for the time, limited to remote locking and a CD changer in the frunk. The 992 pays homage to the 993, but is better in all the ways it should be IMO.
It's so nice that we have so many options in building a 911. Everyone wants something a little different in their build and Porsche makes it so easy.

Was lucky to find my base as a CPO with chalk stitched full leather and SC. I've learned with previous 911's that SC is one of the first things potential buyers ask for, I'd personally never skip that when ordering even on a base.

Hey OP, I am in the same boat as you are. I think the decision ultimately depends on how you are going to use your car. If you are going to track it, then I believe sport chrono is a must; if you use it as a daily driver, then IMHO it is something good to have but not necessary, depending out how much practical value you expect to get from the price you pay for this option.
Also, if you ask in this forum, the loudest voice will most likely be getting sport chrono as it is a must. It is theoretically possible that most of this voice comes from people who track, and if you don't track, then their voice is not practically meaningful to you, even if it is the loudest in the forum. Therefore, please don't simply follow the loudest voice you hear, but instead follow the voice with a motivation behind that matches how you expect to use your car.

Compared with other Porsche options sports chrono is a steal. I have a manual so it comes standard but I’d tick the box anyway just for the steering wheel dial and access to the track precision app. You also get tire temp. display, active engine mounts, and PSM sport mode. All good things.
