Default opinions from software experts?

I've been working with Porsche for some time now to resolve some persistent issues with my '21 992. Here is an interesting video that I am wondering if other software experts out there can weigh in on. I think it clearly shows PCM software getting stuck in a "button press" handler. Note popups being dismissed as the engine is turned off then on, the PCM NAV screen unresponsive, and the PCM finally responding to a "finger squish" at the end.

Any opinions as to what is going on here from people who build complex software systems? Porsche does not yet have an answer....
(Just to put one frequently-offered explanation to rest -- my phone was dead at the time, the video was taken with my wife's phone when I got home)

Pretty hard to tell without having access to log data. On PCM, there's no way to really perform error tracing so you just have to make observational inferences. Based on the video, it sounded like you were getting some audio feedback on one of the initial button presses and then nothing afterwards. PCM is prone to bugs as I've personally experienced, and Porsche seems to be in a state of denial about them. Important to note that Porsche uses 3P vendors for development so it's not their own code running on the thing. Have you done a hard reset?

The map is probably a separated/isolated process from primary UI controls. Either way, since you don't have any access to source code, even if you identify the error there's no way to fix it on your own. I don't know if the dealers can do a wipe and reinstall of the software components. Probably just need to replace the whole unit I would imagine. That video should be enough evidence to warrant a new unit for your car. It's not your responsibility to troubleshoot their bugs. They need to replace.

I agree, don't be tempted to get below the 'it's not working' position on this one. I do run a software business and that's what I'd be telling my guys if they presented this sort of thing for UAT.
