Default 2021s with sport cats: will CEL eventually go off?

Just installed Soul sport cats on my 2021 C2S. Love the product but had a CEL pop up after ~100 miles with them. John at Soul was transparent this might happen and said many folks will have the CEL go off a few hundred miles later. He was also kind enough to send me a set of o2 spacers (which are installed and on the car) even though I bought the cats used off another Rennlister. Good service from them as usual.

My question: should I expect the CEL to eventually go off on its own? Or should I adjust my expectations to just live with it?

I just installed the non valved exhaust with sport cats and got a CEL instantly. I cleared the codes and will go on a drive tomorrow. Hopefully I dont see the CEL tomorrow while driving.

You’ll need to clear it. The CEL won’t go away on its own.

This has been an issue with the 2021 models it seems. I was hoping the new O2 spacers would address the issue but apparently not

OBD readers are cheap. Check on Amazon, several BT options that read and delete codes.

Cool, thanks.

My CELs stopped coming on after several thousand miles. I didn’t add the spacers yet. M-engineering can fix that with their tune.

Yeah the tune is tempting, just haven’t been able to rationalize what utility I’d get on public roads from all that extra power 🤷‍♂️

Tune is tempting, but with warranty it's a risk. A simple inexpensive OBD scanner will take care of any O2 sensor CELs. I PM'd you.

It's a PITA at first, but in time you get pretty handy cancelling them. I can cancel a CEL while stopped for a red light....

+1 on John G. being great to deal with and offering excellent products.

CELs seem commonplace...no matter the sport cats. The issue seems to be with the HJS 200 cell cat being right on the edge of tolerances and the very tight parameters in the 992 compared to the 991.

I have noticed that if I warm up first in Normal mode rather than hopping into Sport, a CEL is spared...Sport throws off a lot more fuel for those pops, which may be a trigger until the cats are at proper operating temps.

Good thing is that the P0420 and P0430 clear in a snap and no longer raise concern.

For no CEL you need longer cats with better quality coating and preferably with a proper insulation jacket to keep them hot.

Here’s a picture of the OEM 991 Turbo cat on the left and the OEM 992 Carrera cat on the right.

On the 992 Carrera the cat section is just 45mm long so actually quite short. On the 992 Turbo its even shorter.

In comparison, on the 991.2 Carrera the OEM cats are 70mm long and on the 997.1 Turbo they are 120mm long.

That’s the section just in front of the O2 sensor. All these OEM cats have 600 cells per square inch.

So what you need is a sport cat that performs as good as this short 45mm section.

We don’t offer separate sport cats but there are other companies that do and without a CEL issue.

Hope this helps.

Got an armytrix 200cel sport cat installed. Throws CEL pretty much all the time. I'm going to try and let the car warm up before taking it out of normal mode but I'm leaning towards spacers or just going for the tune.

Did your O2 spacers work?

I'm afraid not. The CEL came on despite them being installed. I haven't gotten around to clearing the CEL yet but hopefully it doesn't come back once it's cleared.
