So I’ve pretty much finalized my spec after much back & forth…. Was sold on the RS Spyder wheels as on the configurator they show as the normal grey/graphite colour you get but it turns out on the GTS they actually black.
Just wanted to get some opinions on what some of you have opted for wheels wise on your GTS builds.
Why would you downgrade from the centerlocks to a wheel that is common on a non-GTS 911? Not only that, but you don't get a discount for opting for the RS Spyder. The GTS is a sportier variant. Get the forged centerlock wheels. Don't get me wrong, the RS Spyder are very nice. But they are on lots of P-cars. It's like getting a GTS with full leather interior and standard wheels. Just get an S instead. It's less money and still awesome.
I have no interest in centerlocks, so went with satin black RS Spyder wheels on Guards Red. Yes, the configurator makes them look like platinum satin.
For darker colors, like Gentian blue, Agate grey, Aventurine green, the silver Carrera S wheels look very good to me for the contrast but I can understand why if someone went with the GTS spec, they might not want to "downgrade" to the Carrera S wheel and not get any price break. I don't think it's a downgrade at all....great wheel and easier to clean than the RS Spyder wheels.
I go back and forth on this a lot, but since I didn’t get one of the recent allocations, I have more time to mull over it. I currently have the Spyders on my spec, however, the centerlocks have been growing on me and I like that they are unique to the GTS. It’s all the negative I read about centerlocks that gives me pause. I won’t ever change my own tires, but I also like having options outside of the dealer when that time inevitably comes. Also, how durable are the centerlock lugs? Will they get marred during a change?
RS Spyder for me too. Aventurine Green (currently) 4 GTS.
I don’t feel like 10K+ for CL winter wheel setup and like freedom to choose rims myself.
The biggest issue I have is choosing color. Jet Black (black leather with lizard green deviated stitching) or Aventurine Green (black leather with chalk deviated stitching). I have to decide by end of next week and am torn.

Some people don’t want the hassle of dealing with centerlocks, especially if getting PCCBs. Also, in my case, I have two sets of wheels for my 992 Carrera S and I want to keep the winter set for the GTS.
That's one reason not to buy a GTS for sure. Centerlocks just seem to me to be a right royal PITA. More marketing than practical.
There's no question that it's not actually a better way to affix the wheel to the hub. It's silly, because "racecar". That said, I love the new wheel design, and I never need to pull my own wheels, so it's a non issue for me.

Sounds to me that you don’t live in a climate that calls for swapping between summer and winter tires/wheels.

Right on the border, climate change is helping (lol). I'm in the dc metro area - we get maybe 2 days a year of snow that impacts the roads in any significant way, and I don't drive the porsche on those days.
I have a Targa GTS on order and also am choosing the Spyder wheels. Like some others, I simply have no appetite for the centerlocks. Even if they are fine 9 out of 10 times, it is that tenth time that is going to be a tremendous hassle. I have also seen what that centerlock lug can look like after just one change and my OCD could not live with that, particularly since my wheels will be swapped twice a year between winters and summers. CLs also limit my options for winter wheels. Truth be told, my favorite wheel for this car is the Carrera Classic and I have my SA looking into whether I can "downgrade" even more to that wheel.
Don't let anyone here wheel shame you into the GTS specific wheel. Its your car and only your opinion matters. And they are many of the same people who will badge shame you for having the GTS logo on the back and on the doors.
