Default PCM HARD DRIVE?

Does Porsche (2022 - 992) have a hard drive in the PCM to store music on? If not I'll just plug in a usb

No it doesn’t. You can use a max 128gb SD card or usb drive.

THANK YOU! No problem....... seems strange that they wouldn't have that BUT, no big deal. Thanks for responding.... I will be getting my Targa 4s sometime this coming week out of Jacksonville.

With fast USB flash drives cheaply available these days, it makes little sense to include a hard drive in a car (even if SSD). Many people are just streaming music these days, over the network or from their phones, further reducing the utility of music stored locally in the car.

I'm a curmudgeon and still have an SD card of music plugged into my 992. I saw in the other SIM thread that the 2022s removed the SD and SIM card slots, also switched to all USB-C ports. You may need to get a new, compatible flash drive. They're still very inexpensive.

No hard drive is a good thing... one less thing to fail.
On the 2020-2021 cars, you've got an SD slot and USB ports. You can use the SD slot and/or a USB drive (thumb or hard drive). I have an SD card in mine loaded up with music.
With 2022, they've eliminated the SD and SIM slots and switched to 2 USB C ports. You can always use a USB A to USB C adapter with those ports for a thumb drive or your own hard drive.

Does the USB flash drive require preparation? Format to NTFS or Fat32? When I Copy music files (MP3's and FLAC's) from my PC harddrive to the flash drive everything goes smoothly however when I insert the flash drive into the USB slot in the car the system responds "No Usable Files Found"

What am I doing wrong?

The user's guide page says it will support FAT32 or NTFS. What is the size of your USB drive and what are the music file extensions (e.g., are they MP3 or AAC, make sure they are one of the supported extensions listed in the page)? I copied my iTunes music folder as described in this post: https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1223...l#post17077580. Try putting the music files into the top-level folder or else arranging them as iTunes does.

Turns out in my case it was a failing (5 yr old) flash drive. I tried reformatting the old thumb drive several times and copying music onto it but most of the time the PCM wouldn't recognize any playable files on it.

So I bought a new 32Gig USB flash drive, formatted it, copied music onto it - and it now works reliably.

I think I ran into the issue of the USB being limited to 1000 songs. I think...

The limit stated in the manual is 1000 music files per directory - Are all your songs just saved flat, in one big directory?

Try organizing your files like iTunes does, i.e., by Album and then organize the albums by Artist. My PCM lets you browse by artist - I don't know if this is because of the filesystem directory organization or if it is reading the metadata available on each music file. I suspect the former.

My structure is the same. Very convenient. Just had to delete a few to stay below 1,000. --ll
