Default Take Delivery of 2022 Targa 4S Stick or not?

So my new Targa has hit the port just as I'm moving and going mobile for a year. While I realize this is not a problem but a privilege, I'm thinking twice about taking delivery and then within 1,000 miles having to put it in cold storage for about a year. No problem doing this with my older american iron but I get the sense from my 2007 C4S that it just doesn't appreciate sitting unused. Then again, I see so many of these cars with only a few thousand miles so clearly lots of them sit. Then again, I waste a year of expensive warranty with no benefit.

Figured I'd ask the question from a mechanical standpoint what suggestions people might have if I take delivery for keeping it mechanically sound. Up on blocks and trickle charge I guess? If I did that, I'd sell the 2007 on BAT because no point in having two of them sit.
Conversely, I could refuse delivery and order one for next year delivery sometime and just keep the 2007.

My buddy says I'm an idiot and should just take delivery which my heart wants to do but my head is making me ask the question.
Thx

Take delivery and then sell it for 20K + markup, if you do not want to store it. With the market the way it is, why give up the car when you can make more than your money back.

You can always order another one once you are back and you will likely be in the 992.2 range at that point of time.

This is really something you need to decide yourself but this is how I would think about it as I am also travelling quite a bit sometimes and feel like I am missing out on driving my 911.
Mechanically I don't think there is a big concern of leaving your car idle for a year as long as the battery is plugged, have some gas additive to stabilize it and have something under the tires.
Consider the following aspects:
1) How much excitement will you miss if you don't get your car now but a year later?
2) How much will the car depreciate in this year of no miles. Since there won't be any face-lift (most likely) I think depreciation won't be significant.
3) Will you find an allocation next year for the time you want?
4) Will you get it next year or end up waiting for 992.2 or something like that? In which case you might have to wait longer but you get a newer car.

If you put all these on the scale, I hope you can make your mind.
For what it's worth, I would probably take the car

Nothing wrong with buying then storing. Not bad for car. Also don’t store car on stands. Bad for the suspension. Overinflate tires, full tank of fuel with stabilizer, battery tender and enjoy come spring.

Why is it bad for the suspension exactly? Does it stretch the springs?

Because of horizontal engine, oil drains differently. May get some valve ticking later but no big deal. Let if warm up slowly.

my suggestion is for you to buy winter tires and rims and use it in the cold on clear days. A 4S is perfectly suitable for the winter with the right tires.

Buy it. You can store it at my house and I will "exercise" it regularly until you get back.

Or transfer your order to me so I can drive it while I wait endlessly for a GTS allocation. I will give you a right of first refusal to buy it from me when I an ready to get the GTS.

You're getting a car and then having to store it for an entire year pretty much? Wow, that is a really hard dilemma. I think only you can decide on this one... because if you give it up, it may be hard to get another one, period.

To close the loop.
I just quit worrying, trusted my gut and took delivery of the Targa.
My reticence was that this is the first time I’ve done anything remotely like this just for me.
Buying something so expensive out of pocket and choosing what I want, largely the way I want it - mine, all mine.
Strange feeling.

It is so different from my prior 911 that it might as well be a different vehicle.
It’s more of a touring vehicle and that’s what I need right now.
Also thinking that perhaps it should have a 997.2 Targa as a stablemate down the road.

thx for the feedback.
