Refinished RS Spyder wheels - brushed with tinted clearcoat
I decided to refinish my RS Spyder wheels because I didn't love the factory Satin Platinum finish. I've always liked the look of raw alloy and I decided to do a brushed finish with a tinted clearcoat. The original factory-applied paint was stripped and the raw alloy was hand-brushed then finished with a tinted clearcoat. The raw alloy was too bright for my taste with a non-tinted clearcoat, so I decided on a lightly tinted option to add some depth of color. I used the original Satin Platinum center caps as they presented better than the factory silver caps.
The cost was approximately $500 per wheel after all fees/taxes and the work was done by a well-known Porsche wheel shop in Los Angeles; Wheel Enhancement. The total time was approximately 2 weeks and they gave me a loaner set of wheels/tires (991 20") to use while the work was being done.
Overall, I am very happy with the results.

The refinished rims are great. I think the monochrome center caps are a perfect addition to the Spyder rims both the original and your refinished look !!!!
They turned out great! I had contemplated having a set of wheels changed from regular powder coat to brushed/tinted clear a few years back and it is a lot of work. The brushing is very time consuming and on a design as intricate as the RS Spyder it must have been a real challenge.
You had a good vision and it was executed really well by Wheel Enhancement. Congrats!
Wheels are a fashion item, and follow trends like all fashion does. That polish and clear tint is what was in "style" about ten to twelve years ago. If you look back at HRE Wheels, they sold a lot of that look for 997's and early 991's, but not so much now. I think it makes your car look "more vintage" than a current 992 model. I had similar on my 991.1 As long as you like them, that's all that matters.
Very interesting. Loved the idea of the Spyder (though not the idea of cleaning them) and I don't like black or dark wheels, only silver or machined. I got Carrera Classics. But I will say these came out very nice. I get why Porsche went Platinum, as they have a lot going on and seem a bit too bright in Silver.
However, these have just the right clear coat on them and look very nice. Not sure they would pair with other colors as well but look great with GT Silver and of course the bad *** aerokit.
