Default Rust/Water Stain Not Coming Off Paint

Hey everyone,

I parked my 992 at a garage at work and today there was apparently rusted water leaking onto the back of my 992.

I washed it when I got home but the stains will not come off the paint.

Any suggestions on how to remove? I’ve put a few pics below.

If rust for sure, try a paper towel soaked in distilled vinegar, or Diet Coke on the affected areas. Or a foaming rust remover like "Lime-A-Way".

I'd try a good glaze first (McGuiars is excellent). If that doesn't work try the mildest finishing compound (3M Finesse It is my favorite). Avoid the common rubbing and polishing compounds, way too abrasive. Didn't know about the ceramic. I'd forego the 3M if the glaze didn't work.

Looks like clear coat etching?

May want to try using an random orbital polisher and a low grade compound like Scratch X and see what happens.

The disembodied head in the second photo is a pretty neat trick. Good luck getting it out, I'm sure there is a ready solution. Note to self... always look up to see where you've parked.

I do have ceramic coating on the entire car so I'm assuming that may be a reason it's even more difficult to take out.

And I've been parking in this same spot for 2 years - no issues until now.

Try some kind of solvent. I've had a few stains that have been extremely hard to get rid off and decided to consult my ceramic coating installer. She recommended a couple of products and told that they're also safe for the coating. For example, this Nanolex product has proven to be quite efficient: https://www.nanolex.de/en/products/c...-film-remover/ It works for a lot of stuff!

EDIT: Forgot to write that to me it doesn't look like iron deposit (might be wrong, of course) and that's why I suggested the above. If it's indeed iron deposit on the paint, then you need the iron remover as others here have aptly suggested.. I would definitely NOT use any abrasive polishing methods on the paint before trying these. That should be the last resort.

Get your polisher out and the Menzerna 3800 for a trip over the affected areas. If that doesn't work, try Menzerna 3500, then 2500. Try it on an inconspicuous spot and go from mild polish to more aggressive. You'll have to reapply the ceramic coating and topper after you do that on all the affected areas.

Are you sure its rust? In other words, an iron deposit? I am not sure from the photos. Anyway, this is a common problem for cars on long island - people who park all day at rail stations, the elevated trains shower the parked cars with iron deposits as the trains come through. If its really an iron deposit, you need this:

I would consider going to the best detail shop in your area. Anytime I have an issue my dealership cannot handle, my S/A has a solution. Good Luck.

If you’re not confident with the escalated remediation here, I would take it to your detailer. The spots are less of an issue than an attempted remediation done poorly.

THIS!!! If you haven't done such type of polishing work before, this is not the situation to try for your first time.

I can understand people having reservations about stuff like this, but the reality is that it’s difficult to damage paint with the milder compounds. A little common sense goes a long way.

A good random orbital polisher costs about as much as a detailed fixing this stuff - it really just depends on whether you already have the gear or have any interest in detailing paint in the future.

try one of those anti iron sprays that turn purple. something like this.
https://www.amazon.com/Adams-Iron-Remover-16oz-Motorcycle/dp/B07C39H9YX/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=car+tire+rust&qid=1634097522&sr=8-2

works great.

Had a sprinkler with rust water spray all over my wife's merc. polisher was a b--ch. sprayed that on and it came off no effort. then polished and glazed. came out brand new.
