Was not trying to be condescending, just logical. As a manual by definition is "self controlled" launch.
FWIW, I have had several 911's, including on my 2nd 992 (had the 2020 C4S and 2022 Targa 4S), I only have had manuals including both my 992's, and I am not after the quickest times. Was just stating that no matter how good you can get "launching" a MT car, the PDK is just spectacular and impossible to beat - in that regard. I own MT 911's for the old school engagement, not launching or 0-60 times (which still is not bad), just not close to the 911's with PDK.
I have a few other cars that have automatics, and they are great and can really lay down 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. I am glad Porsche still offers the 911 in a MT, as sometimes it is not about speed.
Point is - if you want a very fast 0-60 time, a MT 911 is not going to be the fastest..
No question that a PDK is faster to 60 from a dead stop than a manual. However, speed can be appreciated in other ways. Trundle along at 25 mph in second gear in a manual and mash the throttle to 7000 rpm and the acceleration is the same as if you tried this in a PDK. The manual is slower through the gears only because of the time that it takes to step on the clutch, select the gear, and release the clutch. These delays are measured in a few tenths of a second, and the seat-of-the-pants sensation really isn't adversely affected. I concede that an emergency stab of the accelerator at any speed in the PDK is going to produce a noticeably quicker response, but for the vast majority of driving situations, the manual doesn't feel like a slower car than the PDK.
That is true! I think I did a video on some shifting speeds (what is the max in each gear) of the 992 C4S (I had one of the first ones in NA) and compared it with the 991.2 MT. They did lower a bit I believe from the 991.2 to 992's on the manuals but it is still pretty tall. Where the PDK has shorter I believe and of course 8 speed rather than the way to many gears on our 7 speed MT's.
My understanding is that the taller MT ratios (vs PDK) is driven by Porsche corporate fuel economy goals - while the PDK will upshift to maximize economy when not being pushed, us troglodyte manual shifters tend to red-line everything so Porsche gives us taller ratios...
Indeed - yes I simply want the ability to do something smoky - I want the freedom and option. Manual is how you used to get that. Not having that, or the ability to simply rev the motor in neutral is what makes me nuts.
No doubt Porsche does have computer controlled optimized launch in both PDK and manual. While I'm sure it's fast, it won't be as gratifying as if you've managed that launch w/ your own feet. And by the way if fast is what you're after you will always loose to EVs.
My APR tuned MT 4.0 BGTS 718 will allow a 6,000 rpm clutch dump and there’s still no spin - only hop. I think Porsche engineered it out in the software nannies. My supercharged 993 C4 would spin all 4 tires for a car length. What is the last MT 911 analogue enough I can control myself?

Your N/A 718 just doesn't make enough torque. Turbocharged 992s have vastly more torque hitting at way lower RPMs and can light up the tires easily... if you could rev beyond 3500 RPMs... which I can with my tune that allows me to rev up to 7K RPMs stationary. A basic 4K RPM launch spins the rear tires to oblivion even when it's 70 degrees.
