JD Power Study - 911 Most reliable car for 2021
I know it's a small consolation, but I'm glad I chose a 911 as my first sports car.
What are your thoughts? Is it because Porsche has had 60 years to prefect the formula? Or, it is because the 911 get more corporate $$ and their marque model?

Thanks for sharing that - I'm doubly happy because we have the 911 and a Beetle

JD Power is total bs pay for play nonsense. I don't take anything they say seriously, good or bad, regardless of marque.

Sure that’s true, but you’re only supposed to say that when they say something negative about Porsche. It’s just like road tests: when they are gushing with praise you’re supposed to say the author/publication is among the best in the business. And if the reviews are mediocre or poor, you’re supposed to say that the author is an idiot who wouldn’t know a Porsche from a Yugo. 😊

Thank god JD doesn't send that survey to only RL users- reliability would be 2nd to a Yugo

I can tell you for certain that the automakers spend tens and hundreds of millions chasing jd powers figures, taking into account investment dollars and component piece cost dollars. Components and systems are completely redesigned to address issues identified by jd powers reports. The OEM’s get details on every TGW reported.

Well most buyers probably aren’t on rennlist. In any event, the award increases the perceived value of the car.

So, only the manufacturers "pay to play" the award on their commercials.

I don't put a lot of stock in what J.D. Powers has to say but my personal opinion (for what that is worth, my opinion and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee) of Consumer Reports is even lower. I have worked in the automotive industry for 45 years and sometimes I just cringe at some of the things that they say about some cars.

JD Power is a marketing firm. Their sell their data and the rights to use their name in advertising to car companies. That alone creates a massive conflict of interest and profit motive.
Surveys are completely volunteered, so there is self selection and confirmation bias.
As far as I can tell, there is no control over sample selection - ie what kinds of owners are being represented here and are they normalizing across the various marques? It's unlikely, because Kia owners and Porsche owners are generally not the same. Mileage/utilization are not being controlled. For dependability, we are comparing a Porsche that probably gets 5-10,000 miles a year against cars that routinely get 40,000 miles a year? We are comparing a car that is wiped down with a baby diaper every day by wealthy, knowledgeable owners to a grunt daily driver that's parked out in the snow? Obviously they have various segments, but the overall award seems pretty suspect.
JD Power doesn't really publicly share their data or methodology for scrutiny - it's not a serious piece of research. They charge manufacturers for access to their data. There is no opportunity for peer review or analysis that I'm aware. It's a product that JD Power sells to car manufacturers to use for advertising. Take that for what it's worth.
