-there is plenty of volume on the Burmester to overcome road noise even with windows and sunroof open unless you're listening to classical

That is truly impressive as I **assumed** that would not be the case. However, I chose to use that $4k to improve my home entertainment system which will be much more permanent relatively speaking.

But I think this is true even with the base system -- if we're just talking volume.

I had the Burm in my 991.2 TTS and was somewhat underwhelmed with the bass, even after extensively playing with settings. This may play to my unsophisticated ears, but I really thought the Bose in our 2 Cayennes, 996 & 997 sounded just fine, clearly much older generations

It's not necessarily an issue of volume, but more overall fullness and quality of sound. As many have mentioned, the Burmester didn't blow our socks off with powerful, clear, and awe-inspiring sound. Most say system is just "OK"...which is not what many were expecting considering the cost of Burmester over Bose. Definitely a better option is going aftermarket--for those desiring a concert-like experience.

I'm not an audiophile, but I love music and am particular about sound. I think bose is an amazing choice for the car. The sound at the high end (i.e. when I really want to do serious listening) of the volume range is excellent, even with windows down / top up. Often though I want to hear the engine and exhaust, and tend to keep the volume for music pretty low. If this was a pure luxary hauler like an SUV, I'd have optioned with Burm. But Bose is really, really good for me, given that about half the time I lust for the porshe sound

I compared Bose to Burm in my C4S (which has Bose) to a TTS that I test drove today, considering an upgrade and the Burm was the last option I too was on the fence about.

With the engine off, the Burm sounded better, more accurate. Once you turn on the engine, even at idle, and it’s really a wash except at higher volumes than I’d ever want to listen while driving. Driving down the highway, the differences were negligible at all volumes.

It’s like, if you put a washing machine in your listening room.

I’m going to leave Burm off my TTS build, not because I’m building to a budget. I just don’t see the point unless you listen to radio in your car often without the engine running. (Who does that?)

Id spec it in a Taycan for sure. But a 911, there really isn’t a point. The Bose isn’t great but it’s acceptable.

Same experience. Was not impressed with the Bose (showroom test), was tired of a mediocre stereo in my BMW (HK). Ordered the Burmester without a listen, then while car was in production, I had the chance to listen to the Burmester and was very impressed. Is it the best OEM car stereo I've ever heard? No way, but it is so much better than the Bose to my ears.

This will sound lame, but I plan to add Burmeister to my build since it looks great in the car to my eye. I'm sure it will sound awesome, just like the Bose, but if I'm "designing" the my first (and only) car, I want to add some exquisite niceties which would be high end. I love all the Bose stereos I've had in my cars from my 91 and 96 Nissan Maxima to my current 2012 911. This time around, I wanted something more upscale just because, I can I guess. This will be my "last sports car" to go along with my "last sedan - a 2018 MB", and I don't plan to sell them ever... so, that's why. To each his own. I change this all the time since I don't have an allocation yet but... http://www.porsche-code.com/PNYP7X50

Did you listen to the Burm in the showroom, or while driving at highway speeds? That made all the difference for me. I was sold on the Burm until listening to it on the open road.

I can’t even have a quiet conversation in my C4S at normal speaking volumes. My wife and I kind of have to speak loudly.

The sound quality from any speaker system is going to be mediocre with 85 db plus levels of ambient noise.

totally agree, I have a Burmeister system in my 2020 AMG GT R PRO. Sounds excellent when ambient noise level is low but when moving at speed much of the sound quality gets lost. For that reason I'm going with the Bose system in my 2022 Targa GTS. And once the top gets dropped the acoustics pretty much go out the window anyway.

My 2018 Volvo XC90 R-Design grocery getting family truckster all purpose hauler has a $3,500 option 22 speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system with settings for some famous concert haul, and is a nice system.
But the Volvo has a quieter cabin. And the option came with the car, I didn't spec it.
On my 992 I spec'd the Bose as I couldn't justify the Burm, especially when half the time I turn off the radio and listen to the engine anyway.

Some months ago, I asked the same question, however, it was specifically related to a Cabriolet. Many of those who responded confirmed that they appreciated the Burmester, especially with the top down.

Yes, the beauty in all this is ordering whatever you like. Enjoy the process!
